Wow, as I said I got my boat down to the marina and wow, they are charging 350 to un-winterize/summerization me. That seems pretty steep.
Anyway can't have that next year. I have seen posts on winterizing not so much on summerizing. It is there any reason this isn't a sticky?

Also can someone list just the steps, not the how to, for winterization and summerization. I can find the how to in the forum.

Summarization for me, hook up the truck, pull boat to lake and prepare to launch it. I make sure my winterization is done in a way that there is not really a reason for summerizing. Ask the marina what they are doing for 350.

Same as above. Only thing needed for me to be ready to go is hookup my batteries and put the plugs in. I can't imagine what they are doing.

I'll find out what the summerization process is and report back. I guess it's based on what they did to winterize. My boat stays in my nice toasty basement in the winter, so I assume there is no need to drain the cooling system or pull the freeze plugs or whatever they are called.

Maybe they are installing two new batteries and changing the oil for that price.

As indicated summerization will depend on what was done in the fall/winter. For me I like to change my fluids in the fall so it's ready to go come spring. Some don't do it until spring so that will add time/$$ come summarization time but should save coin and steps in the fall. I also keep my boat in a heated shop but I drain block and all hoses anyway in the off chance of extended power failure. It's pretty simple, quick and I don't mind tinkering on boat anyway so no brainer for peace of mind.

Winterize:
- change engine oil every year
- remove impeller and store in zip lock bag
- pull all drain plugs
- disconnect heater and blow out hoses
- fog engine
- pull/check batteries and/or put on trickle charge
- check alignment
- check v-drive fluid
- check brake fluid on trailer
- **depending on hours change tranny fluid (for me it's every 3 season or so)
- pull out all gear (hang life vests, boards, fat sacs) ect... I do this because I'm usually spending $$ and doing mods all winter :)

Summarize:
- re-install all plugs, hoses, batts and impeller
- toss in all gear
- check tire pressure on trailer tires and torque lugs

Keep in mind some don't remove batts or impeller. And you can re-install all plugs and hoses in the fall during winterization.
In that case you can just hook on and go when your ready following spring.

Don't forget to bring your keys tho! I just got all the plugs back in mine and was excited to get her fired up, only to realize at the landing that I had forgotten my keys at home...

As I was heading out yesterday, I said to myself, "Do I have the key?" I checked and did not. Took 15 minutes to find my safe spot for the key last October.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I guess I can let the shop do their thing this year and I'll try and winterize at the end of summer.

What impeller needs to be pulled. I have read that I several threads and still don't know what impeller.

This....draws raw water into the engine cooling system.

I guess this is the definitive post on this topic.

I guess I'll stop thinking about this now and focus on getting on the water.

I run the boat in the spring on the garden hose to flush the antifreeze out into 5 gal buckets and re-use in the fall to the new antifreeze. I also take the time to verify the water temp gauge and batteries will work before that first launch where everyone else fiddles around on the ramp for their first time.

Good for you! Plenty of people wait till Memorial Day around noon to jack with their boat on the ramp.

You mean, that's not the place to have 12 people in 3 different cars pull up next to the boat and load all the crap, stand around and look at the boat, watch the owner back the truck in then get out to back the boat off the trailer and leave the truck in the middle of the ramp while the other 12 people stand in the other lane of the ramp and watch the owner dock the boat, walk back over to get in the truck and move it?

Your description sounds way to quick. There's a lot more milling and dog barking and don't forget about the folks fishing off the dock and kids swimming off the ramp. And, oh yeah, where did we put the plug when we took it out last year?

And my dock has 400 signs saying no fishing, swimming, or sun bathing. So once we maneuver around the dead batteries and 40 people sun bathing and fish hooks, up the river we go.

Can you post the video of her sitting in the "boat" and him launching? That's gotta be internet gold. Throw it in reverse, gun it, slam on the brakes, and launch like a rockstar.

We were all hoping this was going to happen! Even the attendant as the gas dock yelled out, "throw it in reverse & slam on the brakes!"

Dude in the hat wasn't amused. He and his companion proceeded to tug & curse as they tried to free it from the death grip the truck seemed to have on the boat. It was like watching someone pick a killer wedgie out. Boy finally remembered the bungie cord he had run underneath. Once that was gone, it was a simple pop & drop in the lake. Good times.

So my summerization got me:

oil change
transmission fluid change
put all the coolant plugs/hoses back on

That was $345. I guess I'll be doing all that from now on.

Good news is boat ran great, new amps and speakers and sub sound great. Now I just have to try and surf this year on the new board. BamaMojo, see you on Sunday.

You can certainly save some $4 doing it yourself if you have the time.

I'd suggest the oil and tranny fluid changes at the end of the season vs the start of the season.

I hope I save more than 4 dollars and I have the time.

BTW, do you store indoors over winter and if so, do you do the whole drain the cooling system thing? You have about the same winter weather as I have here in Birmingham.

I had to look at my keyboard to make sure...I was really hoping that the $ symbol was the same key as the number 4. Let's hope it was just a keyboard error and that you can save more than $4.

yep, I failed typing class in High School.

I find it's worth every penny to have the dealer winterize it as it helps me avoid the nagging from my wife every time the thermometer gets close to 32 degrees.

I do store my boats indoors. Last year was a climate controlled location. I still chose to winterize in case Atlanta had one of the freak ice storms we get here and power was knocked out. Prior years the storage area was not heated.
