I need some help here. I am looking at having the Flow Surf installed on my '09 OBV, this is because my wife and I surf opposite sides. I currently have 1200 lbs each side with 400 in the ski locker as well as bow sac. The boat surfs well with a few friends in it.

The question I have is whether the flow surf will throw as good as a surf as when the boat is listed to the side? It is going to cost me about $3500 all said and done (new swim platform is apparently required) and I want to make sure the quality of the wave will be equal. I understand that I will be filling the entire boat up using the flow surf, which is ~3400 lbs which should be an advantage.

Anyone one have any experience with Flow Surf vs no Flow surf?

I have not heard of anyone that has installed the Flow Surf on an OBV. I was headed in that direction until I discovered the same thing you did (needing a new platform taking the cost up around $3k). At that point I just created a ghetto gate and got pretty good results with my ballast set up (400# in the ski locker, 650# IBS and 900# in the rear lockers). I'm planning to try to use the skateboard ramp this spring and see if it produces any better results than my ghetto gate did. I'm not really willing to spend the $3-4k on the automated systems unless someone can show that it really produces a seriously better wave than my ghetto gate does.

Is this, Flow Surf, an aftermarket automated system? I would be curious to see how this works out. I am planning on either making a homemade ramp or buy the Ronix one this year as well upgrading the rear lockers to 750 from the factory 400. Please keep us posted on how this works out.

I believe coop is referring to the manual Flow that is manufactured for the SC boats and is not the automated system. I'm not even sure if the automated Flow has been retrofitted for the OBV or not.

BTW, if you are planning to get the 750s I would suggest getting the Sumo 900 instead. I originally had the 750s as well but there is room for the 900 and its only $20 more IIRC. And more importantly with the OBV, every little of ballast helps!!

I'm trying that ronix wake maker on a boat this year, not a obv but I'll at least post a thread on here letting people know my general take on the system. For $600 and no install cost, I'd be looking at that before the flow if I were in your position. There are a lot of good cheap ghetto gates out there too you can build. I surfed with and without a ghetto gate on a 06 LSV and it was pretty good. I will say the manual flow is a good system though, I've surfed behind a mondo with one last year a little bit. Seems like manual flow should cost a lot less than $3500, even with a new platform. I thought the manual flow parts were like $1200? platform and install shouldn't be $2300.

The kit from Moomba is $2600 Canadian which includes the platform. Add tax, shipping and install it gets up there quick. I may install myself. I ordered it anyway. Not interested in playing with a ghetto gate, want it done right the first time...plus I don't have the time on my hands!!
I will update on the improvements seen once summer shows up

Definitely keep us OBV owners posted on how the install goes and how well the manual Flow works out for you.

That wave looks great, but the LSV has another foot and a half of boat that the OBV doesn't. I very much hope that coop finds the same excellent wave behind his OBV once he get the manual Flow installed as it just gives us "small" boat owners another option.

True... But the Manual flow really helped cleaning up the wave more than producing. I run 1100s and didn't even have to feel them up all the way and still trying to dial in. I just put it in this winter myself and it cost me about $1100 installed (new). I would recommend it over any ghetto gate or shaper, as it will add desire and value to older boats over the competition who lack any style surf system. I did it for resale and to help wave. I know It will be much better than these pics once dialed in and I have passengers in boat. This is me and 1 passenger for photo purposes.

Did that include a new platform? If not, doesn't the flow hit the platform so that it doesn't retract all the way? I ask because that is the reasoning that I got that you also need a new platform...

I also asked two different dealers and neither would sell me just the Flow without getting a new platform as well.

Didn't need platform. So didn't come with one. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160414/b66cb8d11fcaca30d8b17c03d62c43af.jpg

Glad to hear it doesn't need platform changed for 2013 LSV!! My dealer told me they had to change platform for install. Cost to buy and have it installed is upwards of 3k here now... No platform change should reduce price a little... Thanks for pics of it!

I have a Mojo with manual flow so the info might not apply, but... From talking to different people trying to get as much info for the best wave on the Mojo I have been warned a few times about to much weight in the rear/overall. Apparently you can push the flow tabs into the water too far and they become less effective. Also for a good goofy wave it still requires listing the boat with no/very little offset weight.

From reading coop's post kinda sounds like he is expecting/wanting to weight the boat evenly and make quick changes with the manual tabs. From my experience and the advice of others this is not going to happen as expected. Reweighting the boat to switch sides is still required.

OK, so finally got it installed. Swim platform is beautiful, much nicer than the '09 stock! Wave was first attempt, two adults in boat. It doesn't look too clean in the pic, but I left my wake plate down, once adjusted turned clean. I am happy with it, haven't surfed it yet as water is 52 deg and I only have a shorty. I will post again once I get some more time on the water
