I have a buddy who is a BIG guy and he slipped and broke the base of my drivers seat with the flip up. Does anyone sell this base or am I just looking at a whole new seat? I thought about trying to make a new base for it but I have a feeling the exact same thing is going to happen even if I make one. Any options?

I'll try to grab a pic tonight, it's the base of the seat is broken, the screws that hold the flip up in have broken out of the seat base.

ouch....

a new seat or maybe bolt some long aluminum flat stock from the bottom side and re attach the bolster.

a new seat isn't cheap that's for sure, not when I have a lot of other things on my to do list!

maybe bolt some long aluminum flat stock from the bottom side and re attach the bolster.

I would try taking it apart and isolating the broken plastic base. Then glue the broken pieces back on with JB Weld or other 2 part epoxy. Then reinforce with a 1/4" or so thick aluminum plate across with a few screws or mini-bolts and nuts. Then put it back together.

Of course, I would be adding a swivel as part of the project. Might even make it easier. You can do a search on swivel seat here and see lots of pics and ideas. Most of us added at least one aluminum plate that bolted to the base in order to attach the swivel. Good luck!

Here's one thread on adding a swivel:

Did anybody ever determine in the XLV needs the angle? I have had my seat off and it looks flat to me?

I would go for the repair myself. Good suggestions on here and none of it will show. Can't believe it broke like that though.
I have had mine off plenty of times to do work under the dash and had to do some repairs on the seat but it was much easier to work with than I thought it would be.

I have never been dissatisfied with my lack of swivel. But it could be I don't know what I am missing. I like the price of the preangled swivel, but I know i would want some kind of locking mechanism to fix it in place so it wasn't moving around when stability was preferred.

Any thoughts on that?

I went with the nonlocking swivel on my OBV, which was linked in post #7 above, and never had an issue. Now that I have my LSV with the factory locking swivel, I never lock it. Real nice to spin at will.

Yea, mine doesn't lock and I was worried about it. Turns out I would never use it as I sit aimed a few degrees to port all the time and sometimes rest my L foot on the observer's seat too. It would be my first mod if I got another boat.

swivel base will be here today, bought some bracing material and going to make what I have work and try to stiffen it up a little as well. Thanks for the suggestions!

finished up the swivel seat on Saturday and was also able to fix the flip up with some treated wood and a little bit of cut steel. Took it out for a test run on Sunday and the wife and I both loved it! We didn't do the locking swivel and I'm glad, it doesn't spin freely, but really happy with it.

I will get you guys some pics, I just used 3/4" plywood to see if we would like it before I went and bought the steel to make this project happened but it is for sure going to happen now that we have the option to spin! I can't spin it all the way around unless I move the seat all the way forward, and ive normally got it all the way back but I wasn't wanting to swivel 180 just 90 was fine with me, and it doest hit the throttle or the side wall so I'm very happy.

I think for now we are just going to paint the wood that you can see but you get the idea of what we did here. One wooden plate to the original rails that the seat slides on, then one wooden plate to the seat base, then the swivel in the middle. I'm going to have some steel plates made but this will work for right now. We also did the miner's moss for carpet replacement and we love how that has turned out.

Are you using the Miner's Moss in the version with the backing or without?

Probably don't even need the bolster now , with that extra height

I used it without the backing and it seems to be working.
