I was curious on how visible your Reg numbers have to be. Say you had a black metal flake main panel with black chrome logos. Could you do matching black chrome Reg numbers from domed numbers or do they need to be more visible for the po po?

Let me know what you find out .... My plan is likely black lettering with red outline ... and that's my color scheme.

I think it will vary by location as it seems some lakes are more enforced than others.

I got a warning by park ranger in TX because mine were too similar to gel coat. Gave me a copy of boating rules pamphlet which i can't remember exactly what it said.

I ended up going with white since it's my hull color.

In Utah it has to be a contrasting color and must be a solid color. I was wanting to do an outline like KG but most lake around here are state parks and they will not allow them. So I think it depends on where you are.

They are supposed to be contrasting for easy visibility. But a black main color with a white outline is very noticeable on your hull.

Contrasting and easily visible is what they are looking for.
With this in mind I have black letters with white outline on a black hull with no issues.

My experience is that each officer has a different idea of what is ok. Both boats I've had very non-contrasting reg and had few issues (Canadian police have seemed the most annoyed with it, luckily I don't boat in Canada much)

I've also ran both boats without numbers for a few months without issue, although that's just asking for trouble😋

Contrasting colors are required. The law enforcement makes the determination but not the final determination as the courts do that. You will be stopped by law enforcement more frequently than most people and probably get warnings because they use that reason to look for other issues. So if you are clean and don't mind the inconvenience go for it.

I did silver metalflake on mine. Used the Moomba masque font.

How big did you go? I think standard is like 3x20 which is what I did but can't tell if yours is that or bigger

I used the Star Wars font on my last boat. LOL. (but that's because it was all black and white and named the "stormtrooper")

I would think the best font to use is still the Moomba Masque font:

I'm not sure. I told the guy the law say 3inch. I've never been stopped and asked if my numbers were of the appropriate size. Typically here they look for the reg. sticker and then are happy if you are displaying numbers. I didn't even have numbers till August of last year, 3 months after bought. I just kept telling them I just bought it until the one police officer wrote me a warning.
