View Full Version : Driver's side bench seat backrest option

Has anyone retrofitted the new backrest to the end of the driver's side bench seat on a Mojo or Mondo?
I'm planning on doing this.
There is also a retrofit kit to install the center rear facing bench seat. I don't plan on doing this option.

Looked it over a lot when at the boat show with same idea. I think you would want to add a backing plate inside of where the bracket attaches. Pretty sure there was extra material glassed in on that area on the 2016's. Only issue I can see is getting the new vinyl to match the old vinyl.

I'm not gonna get that option. It's just another thing for a few of my fat friends to break! lol People can sit sideways and turn there heads. Just saying. I don't trust things that stick out like that on a boat. People put all their weight on stuff like that when on boats to keep from falling or what not and I can just see it breaking over time.

I called my dealer on this too but the $900 Canadian price tag turned me off (order to match). I have more important things to do and I never sit there anyways as I be driving.

It comes with a backing plate. I was offer the item at about half that price $US.

Driver's side bench seat backrest option
I for one opted for the option and I bet will never really use it myself. I know for a fact just one day riding the mid seat back will be worth every penny for the person taking pictures and video. It was always a awkward seat for the media person and look forward using it on day 1. Behind the driver was the popular spot in my old boat having the back rest and rear facing. If it was just chillin or under way there was always somebody in that seat using the back rest. The new Craz cant come soon enough!

Are you referring to a Brace under the seats?

I had to order a new Rear Seat as my white vinyl started cracking very badly over only a couple days.
I opted for an entire new seat vs a cover.

It came with this aluminum brace attached to the bottom. it looked real nice except doesn't work at all, as my back seat rests on the V drive cover. So with the brace the seat doesn't fit.

The side seating it would work on, I have never had an issue with the seats flexing, other then the Observer seat flexes when I stand in the center, So I just don't do that but I have never seen an issue with people, and I have had some healthy people in my boat before LOL.

No, a backing plate (brace) that goes on the backside of the fiberglass that the mounting bracket bolts to.

Correction.
No backing plate came with the kit.
However, when the carpet in that part of the compartment was pulled back, a backing plate had already been glassed into the fiberglass.

Great minds think alike! I wouldn't mind adding it to my OBV, just not sure I've got enough room.

Ohh man this is legit, I have to look into this. I think it would be my new favorite seat LOL.

Is there a name to this kit to help my dealer on it?

My receipt lists it as, "Moomba Back Kit." No part number listed.

Another correction. The backing plate glassed in at the factory is only large enough and positioned in such a way as to accept 2 of the mounting bolts. The backing plate does not extend enough to the midline edge of the seat base, thus the bolts on that side are right at the edge of the plate. I will need to add additional backing material.
I looked at a Craz with this option at my dealer over the weekend. As best as I can tell, the seat base dimensions and mounting location is same as the Mojo. The backing plate from the factory on the craz extends near the width of the seat base.

KG, did you add yours yourself? What kind of boat do you have? Any mounting issues?

Just pulled the trigger on this back rest seat option. Dealer said he can order with my interior pastern so it will match.

Should have it in about 3-4 weeks.

nice, should def add some comfort for the person sitting in that area.

Ran into a hick-up, Dealer says Factory told him the seat was longer on my boat and the hinge wont work, explained that are looking at the wrong seat as this is a complete Add on not a re-porpoising of an existing seat LOL

Hope to get it worked out today and ordered.

Surely the dealer is referencing the sliding rear bench .... not the upright backrest behind driver.

Exactly what I am thinking.

No way you can tell me the backrest I am referring to won't fit. Just a simple miss communication I am sure.

Expensive little upgrade though. 100 for interior portion and 500 for the brackets and such.

I will try and design one with everyday brackets and see what I come up with. Hardest part is matching up upholstery, but a generic color or white would be ok.

Can get Matching upholstery from dealer, hell the hole back rest is only 109 from dealer, its the bracket system they are charging so much for.

Maybe I should just order the seat back and figure the rest out LOL.

Do you have a link to retro fit the rear facing bench?

Mike I have been trying to think of what to use to make this happen.

Yea right now I am at a stale mate with my dealer and SC.

Basically the dealer says it wont work.
SC says I can order it with a no return policy because I am a 13 boat.

Dusty sent me lots of pictures and measurements of the seat in place and clearance issues.

I am going to ping my dealer again once I measure my boat to compare to KGs. From what I can see KG bench seat has very little hangover and mine as a little more. So I might need to place a spacer in the bracket which I am ok with.

Also if the Seat back comes with the mounting pole and I only need to make a brace then I might go with custom CNC. Just buy a block of Aluminum and get a shop to trim it down and mill a hole for the seat back pole. IDK yet.

The seat is only 110 so if it comes with the pole then I will at least get that. The bracket is 500 and that's with my discount so its pricey for sure.

I am all over this mod though LOL. I hate it when people lean on my swivel seat when I drive because I can't swivel then LOL.

That's a whole lot of coin for what it is. I was interested in grabbing one and making it work for my boat but not at that price. Really the bracket and seat back should be able to work with multiple boats that have the same interior layout. Main issue would be clearance between driver's seat and seat base to the rear. Gonna subscribe to see what comes of this possible mod.

What a cash grab. My dealer quoted me $1500 for just the drivers side back rest. That is beyond ridiculous! Looking forward to a retrofit.

Thats crazy talk.

I got the pricing all locked down but I havn't done my measurements Dusty sent me from KGs boat to make sure everything will work.

Right now just the seat portion with matches interior is $110
The bracket that mounts to the boat and the bracket on the seat = $500

If the measurements work out then I am going to buy the Seat Back for $110 and then figure out something for a bracket. At $500 i would think I can just buy a block of aluminum and have it milled to fit a pole for the seat.

Does skiers make the brackets? Typically it's Atwood or similar marine company that they source from. Maybe going direct can save some $

I would bet it's made by XTP.

Really, does it need to be removable? If not, you could easily bolt a piece of aluminum tube right through to the fiberglass.

dusty2221

^I'm with ian. This is something that will never be removed once installed. Grab some aluminium for the post, grab a sheet to cut a backing plate from and bolt this thing on.
