Since I am no audio expert I thought I would ask you guys your thoughts on these. I have a line on a smoking deal for a set of these($200).

What are your thoughts on these? I am looking to get sound back to Wakeboard length and these are HLCD. They seem to be knew so I am not seeing any reviews.

I would be powering with this amp, Is it enough?:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_21908_Kicker-DX300.2-08DX300.2.html

I am currently running a pair of Kicker KM620.2's on the tower:

I think this would sound much better than what I have, without breaking the bank but would like some opinions

For that price, you should buy two pair :)

Is your plan to remove the current pair?

That amp is going to be light on power. Giving it less than half of what it wants. Hlcd are power hungry.

You need an amp with 200 watts rms into two channels @ 4 ohms. This could be a 2 channel or 4 channel.

If your in boat speakers are not amped, you could consider a 5 channel and stay in a single amp. Or get a cheaper tower amp and use your current one on the in boats.

It will be a big improvement if properly powered, especially at distance.

* the 5 channel route would have to be specific amp. I'm sure there are other 2 ohm scenarios as well.

What are you comfortable changing amp wise? What all equipment do you have? 2 or 4 towers? Have a budget in mind?

Trayson will track it down for you :p

Well, I am a CPA, and budgeting is one of my specialties!

That said, for the towers, definitely go with the Precision Power P600.2 over the one that was posted. it has about twice the power and runs about the same price. I have one powering my Kicker HLCD 6pack and it's really really hard to beat for the money.

Looks to me like those are NOT HLCD tower speakers by fosgate. Still, best to give them as much power as feasible. and I'm sure they'll outperform the existing kickers based on the fact that they're 8" drivers. But from the specs, they are still your typical 2 way speaker with a dome tweeter, so still a "surf" speaker.

That said, seems like a solid buy.

Oh no, I've been hoodwinked.

You could get away with less power on coaxial but 75w is still pretty light

I have two sets and absolutely love how crisp they're. I have amps set at about 90 on hp to give a little more bass out of them, but my W6 gives me more than enough bass. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160205/7fda18b4c2e5bec15a7804e88a266d6c.jpg

Are you sure they are not HLCD? I know the M282 is not but I thought the PM282 was, see the specs:
General Features:
•Black 8" Punch Series Wakeboard Tower Speakers
•Power Handling:
◦Peak: 400 watts per pair / 200 watts each
◦RMS: 200 watts per pair / 100 watts each
•True Marine Grade compliance
•1" bridge mounted tweeter
•High density poly-ethylene enclosure with UV inhibitors
•Quick release design for security and cleaning
•Includes safety lanyard
•Malibu® direct mount compatible
•Comes loaded with PM282 horn marine speakers
•Optional C-clamp available fits bar sizes 1-1/2" to 2-3/4": Rockford Fosgate PM-CL1
•Neoprene Cover Available: Rockford Fosgate PM28-SPF
•Also Available in White: Rockford Fosgate PM282W

As for what else I have:

Kenwood 562 BT Head unit
6 Kicker KM something cabins
1 10" kicker sub
powered by a Kicker 700.5 amp
then I just have the 2 kicker tower speakers powered by the DX300.2

Do you think I would be able to hear them at wakeboard length?

Oh and yes I plan to remove the Kickers on the tower and replace with these if I go this route. Last season I spent my money getting the new head unit and 2 Kenwood remotes put on the boat as well as buying the 2 amps I have from a member on here as one of mine died. Also the wiring and everything else cleaned up that was a huge rats nest.

If this is not going to work for wakeboard length then I may just save my money and go wetsound or exile later this year or next year.

I would like to upgrade my sound for less that $500.

What is pictured in the link is for sure the coax. If the part number has an "H" in it, that denotes the horn.

The RF HLCD wont handle more than about 150W true RMS. They have a small voice coil compared to other 8" HLCDs and even some 6.5". I would suggest 2 pair, but at this price, you are into Rev-10 range.

[QUOTE=JHutch;280596]""Are you sure they are not HLCD?""

Technically the 'H' version of the RF tower speakers are a 'horn' speaker....BUT....they clearly are not an HLCD (as in 'horn loaded compression driver'). There's a big difference.

No, I'm not sure. I was just going off what it said on Sonic.

I used to have that 5 channel kicker 700.5 amp. It was fine, but I found it would overheat and I'd lose either my sub channel or I'd lose all of my cabins. Sucked. It would regularly go into protection mode and drove me nuts. It wasn't the best amp for how I wanted to use the system, so I sold it and went with the Precision Power Phantom series amps, which are class D and seem to run forever without overheating. A lot happier now.
