i am fixing to change the oil and transmission fluid in my 98 outback. It has the 5.7 litre carb engine. I have found some post for 99 5.7's but was not sure if this would be the same for me. I am assuming this would take 15w-40 penzoil marine oil and then dexron III for the transmission. Also could someone tell me what oil filter to go with? Thanks

On the transmission it is important not to underfill or overfill so when I change the engine oil I use the old containers to pump the tranny fluid in so that I have an accurate measurement of what was taken out.

Thanks. Very helpful idea. Now I just need to make sure I am using the correct fluids and I will be set.

Exactly, several solo cups works for me after pumping it out. Fill each cup to the line and then get the same number of new cups and match... pour it in and your set.

You will be fine with the Pennzoil 15W40 oil and the DexronIII tranny fluid. Indmar suggeststs the Pennzoil PZ3 oil filter, however, if not available, have it cross referenced. Brian Raymond

Thanks Brian. I will be doing this as soon as I get off work today. Trying to get everything ready for the long weekend.
