Hey guys,
Just wondering if I can get away with venting my IBS bag thru my attwood aerator drain pump or wether Ill need to install another thru hull. Thanks in advance

No. If it is a drain pump, then it is at a bottom port. The vent needs to be on a top vent.

That makes sense. Thanks Joe, I was hoping I wouldnt have to take the drill to the side of the boat but I guess thats the next step.

There are how to's on the forum for drilling holes. I also think there is a youtube video from Wakemakers.

Why not run a line from the top if the bag up to the drain line near where it exits through the hull? Install a "Y" in the line and add a check valve. The bag will vent through the existing thru hull fitting and the check valve will keep water from going back down the vent side while draining.

Kane, thought about this but currently the drain shares the same thru hull as the bilge pump-both with check valves. I was afraid of adding the vent to this thru hull also, but any reason why I couldnt? As long as it also has a check valve? Currently the IBS bag just has the cap style vent plug in it and its a PITA. I was hoping to get away from this.

Drilling a new hole and sealing is not bad.
I'm assuming you do not have a center bag. On my boat, I have 2 thru-hulls on the front starboard side. One for the center bilge pump. The other is the vent for the center and front bags. Used the Y-connector for both bags.
You are right about the cap-style vent plugs. Pain.

I added a second thru hull up front when I did my mini-IBS. That was just because my front bag drains thru the original one and I wanted to be able to drain both at the same time (I put a dedicated drain pump on one leg of the IBS.

Thanks for the reply, guys. @MJHsupra, no I dont have a center bag.I guess Ill be drilling a new thru hull in the spring. I will use the new thru hull for the IBS drain and vent inline with a Tee. The old (factory) thru hull will be a dedicated bilge pump out. I never really liked the idea of the bilge sharing a thru hull with a check valve on the bilge output line...kinda sketchy.

Ok guys, time to add to this thread. Over winter I have created a list of things I wanted to do to get this boat the way I wanted it.
My list as follows:
Install IBS with switch and new sprinkler valve headder
Install stainless thru hulls adding one more for integrated IBS
Install storage netting under gunwales much the same idea as Vikings old OB
Finish new swim platform which I built off Traysons design.
So far, I removed the plumbing I had started in the fall (see above posts), built a new ballast manifold and added a new ballast fill/empty switch on the dash. All of my switches were in use and I didnt feel like changing them up or piggybacking like others have done, so I decided to put the new switch where the horn button was and relocate the horn button. One problem with this is the factory horn button. It is ugly and just wont do, so I picked up one of these: http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.winddeal.net/image/29755-.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-12V-LED-Momentary-Horn-Button-Metal-Switch-16mm-Push-Button-Lighted-Switch-/141368954370&h=1001&w=1001&tbnid=yWnzToGZYdnbZM:&q=16mm+horn+switch&docid=3GCjNjVlg5zIrM&ei=9NHUVvuaO8eAjwPHtbDoCg&tbm=isch&ved=0ahUKEwj75MCFjp7LAhVHwGMKHccaDK0QMwgiKAcwBw
I will install it on the ignition panel as there is way more room over there. If someone can chime in and tell me how to post pics from my samsung phone, my next post will come complete with pictures.

@kaneboats, thank you. You have changed my life. Tapatalk is awesome but you will have to bear with me, Im still getting used to it.
So tonight I fabbed up a new ballast headder to accomodate the automated IBS. I built it out of pvc fittings and a new orbit valve fr home depot. Im probably going to take alot of flack for using orbits vs irritols, or check valves etc. But I wanted something simple and close to stock and I really dont care about fill times.

Next, I made some progress on my new swim platform I copied from Traysons design. The swim platform is made of 3/4 inch plywood laminated together with PL700 and stainless screws. Im just waiting for warmer weather before I encase it in fiberglass resin and veil, followed by tinted white gelcoat.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160307/efa061a6a98855681ed6d1d68ded7e6c.jpg

I routed all the edges of the platform to chamfer and remove the edge. Then I finished up the new platform brackets. I made them from scrap stainless steel I had laying around. I built them to the identical likeness of the factory ones. As I said before, my boat is a multi sport family boat and not every trip is a surf outing. I wanted to leave my stock platform as is so I could switch back and forth.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160307/7bdf3c86a00827ad35599c9ca231b256.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160307/f9a0a9c6976b2bcedcbf86bbdc0e85ac.jpg

I spent the rest of the evening crushing beers at hockey, worked up some liquid courage and drilled a hole in the back side of the drivers foot rest to run the new ballast fill line to the IBS. I attempted to fish the new hose thru to the engine bay but what a pain! I was unsucsessful, and will try again tomorrow.

You might consider the flat area to the right of the dash for your horn?
I installed my LED switches there and was very convenient.

Ive been considering that, viking which is why I havent installed the horn button yet. I like the clean look your switches have installed there. I havent checked yet, what is behind there?

Thanks Kane. A little more progress today: I finished the switch install in the dash and mapped the wiring harness I got from wakemakers. I know the new switch isnt quite as square as the others but I had no choice. There was going to be some interference with the panel mounting studs if I didnt. The second pic shows where I had to notch the dash in behind the switch panel in order for it to fit. I hope the pics turn out, lighting wasnt great.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160307/6241765056ecd405f1e0a09b8422d920.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160307/91433cf62b5cb1513d2e2bb669bab412.jpg

Then I removed all the black factory thru hulls to replace with stainless ones I got in my WM order. I really liked the look of these on Vikings boat so its safe to say that is what inspired the change. My bro called dibs on the factory black ones as his are white and discolored on his I/O. It looks to me like SC used a 1 1//4 hole saw for the factory ones, I need an 1 3/8 opening. Looks like Ill be using a fine carbide bit and the die grinder to fix this up. I mapped the new thru hull hole on the hull and when I gain enough courage Ill take the drill to it.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160307/e281213a34e43ce3885dc65ea6ed7875.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160307/55af0228269054378ceefbaf5a16200a.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160307/ccbd169c626acfe78288f4f9a01e4d0c.jpg

I like an a-symmrtrical look to my boat. There are thru hulls on the left and right rear for the rear ballast and a thru hull on the starboard front for the bilge pump. Im going to put the IBS drain/vent thru hull on the port side front and dead across from where the starboard front thru hull already is.

Not really progress but... today a couple items showed up for the boat. First is a roll of hydro turf. I will be using it on the top side of the new swim platform once its glassed and gelled.
Second is a pair of cargo nets I bought off great lakes skipper. The description is 60x10 polytech netting for Skiers Choice. Im assuming these must be for a supra or a higher end moomba. Anyways I have part numbers if anyone is interested. We will see how they look once installed.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160310/a35a771135511a78ec92dc56f4bb0353.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160310/038076a82ec33ef48868b02148aa4ff5.jpg

Made some time for the boat today. Pretty cold and trying to snow so just a couple little things out of the way. First I used a die grinder and carbide bit to hog the old thru hull holes. I needed 1 3/8 inch to get the new ones to fit. After I installed the 3 new thrus, I tried to work up the courage to drill a new thru hull on the port side. I couldnt do it. So I relocated the horn switch to the ignition panel and re wired it instead. I liked Vikings idea on switch location but decided to reserve that space for future endeavors.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160316/f03b679422141036f61b713164557fc4.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160316/bf4bc07a5dc4a0eaee32779a7dcb665d.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160316/e7987290ddb6dd4fd79b2b57b98948fb.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160316/538d537f31467e643bcfe95f543867a5.jpg

Been a while since I updated as spring break was busy with the kids, work etc. Anyways, today I finished up the new swim platform brackets. I counter sunk the mounting holes so the screw heads will mount flush. Then a quick polish to knock off the burrs.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160330/96617537d6f3ecc6bf6b40b26d9a4da5.jpg

Then I routed all the ballast lines for the IBS. Fill line, drains, and vent. Ill take pics of this tomorrow once its all crimped and clamped. After some liquid courage I grew a pair and took the drill to the side of the boat for the new thru hull. I honestly dont know why I was so worried. I followed the wakemakers video tutorial and it was no big deal, it turned out awesome and measurements were on the money.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160330/7e40c1881d3969c49209cbe94d4856b1.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160330/9e68be6eb9f556653eab28b3ae7cedef.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160330/f4735f783c4ee9768169d4397540a721.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160330/a5bbe7edd48941f57cfb1d2aaa2eb651.jpg

I cant remember who or where, but somewhere on here I read once that the cup holders in the bow are sharp underneath and can potentially cause damage to the IBS bag. I took a couple pictures in case someone else runs into this. A quick zip with a walter stainless zippy cut and problem solved.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160330/4952692bd5f6f947126c428c34080232.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160330/062a9df3092caa459e3afda55e9ee595.jpg

Using ballast for a recreational purpose might seem odd but it's certainly not a new concept in boats. Large ships, cruise liners and especially cargo ships depend on it and have been using it for hundreds of years. It's how the zebra mussel got here.

Back to progress. Today I finished running all the plumbing for the IBS and all is crimped and clamped. I used the O clamps next to any permanent fittings and stainless gear clamps near anything that may need to come apart later. For example, gear clamps on all thru hulls, pump and sprinkler valve fittings, and at the check valves. First is a picture of the vent hose, it runs high up in the gunnels to a tee at the thru hull. The thru hull does double duty as a vent and drain, so there are check valves on both sides. (Picture 2).http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160331/b2a8be16076dc79bdb8555d347cb5b89.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160331/e566b0b98b1ca6563770e8fbf37f0916.jpg

Next I plumbed the drain hose. Im only using one tsunami pump as a drain for simplicity, so I connected both legs of the IBS bag and then Tee'd for the single pump connection. Pic 1 shows the starboard bag leg drain hose, pic 2 shows the tee and connection of the port side to the tsunami.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160331/80db0eb09aaa0dd59ee9c1cd9d70b85a.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160331/c024c8c9a1ec84e088316af1d3a578ec.jpg

Lastly, after many attempts, cuts, scrapes, and curse words followed by beer breaks, I finally managed to fish the new IBS fill line thru to the engine compartment. Once I finish up some wiring which Ill document with pics, Ill install the new intake headder but Im still working on ideas for a headder mount. Anyone who owns an outback dd can sympathize with me-there just isnt much room for anything under the hood.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160331/e01a67a0b7ace6ede43ed389dddfc0d6.jpg

Surf platform work. As Ive posted before, the idea came from Traysons design so props to him. It started out as a 3/4 inch sheet of good on one side fir plywood. I ripped it in half and laminated the two pieces together rough side in using PL 700 and stainless screws. I cut the shape out and then it had all the edges routed to get rid of the sharpness. Sanded then applied 1 coat of resin, then roughed up and added veil cloth with another coat of resin on that. Its ready for gel. Not the best picture but you get the idea. ...and after the first coat of gel. I cant take credit for the gel work, I have a feiend that does this for a living so Im taking notes. I will experiment with gel myself once I build my ghetto gate. Once this coat of gel air dries it will get another coat and then a wax coat over top to seal it all up.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160429/f7cda4964671537394858154c1e58b00.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160429/45dd16574bfaf02183b222bce2b3d93a.jpg

Ok, another update. Tried the IBS yesterday and it was flawless. With the added weight however, my factory platform was really digging in and chewing the wave. This motivated me to get the new platform done. I glued the top pad on and started getting ready to mount it on the new brackets-I still have to trim the sea deck pad, so go easy on me. Im going to have to mod the brackets a bit but no big deal.
