So after our first trip to the lake in the new Expedition it is clear that we will be lacking in cargo space, especially with wakeboards. I know they sell roof racks for skis and snow boards and you can fit a wakeboard in those but they all seem a little narrow. I want to fit 2 wakeboards in a roof rack and at 17 inches wide each I need the rack to be at least 34 inches wide. If anyone knows of a roof rack that can hold two wake boards please let me know.

Less then 5 minutes on Google.

https://www.yakima.com/skybox-18-carbonite

Dimensions: L 92.00” x W 36.00” x H 16.00”

You can easily fit 2 wakeboards side my side.

He asked for a roof rack, not a cartop box. Sure the boxes are awesome, I have one. But sometimes you only want the rack. I run the cartop box over the winter and run the thule flattop 4 and flattop 6 for the summer to bring wake/surf boards in the summer. The box is just TOO much in the summer. Plus, it's really nice to have the boards secured in a rack so they're not sliding around and piled on top of each other.

Here is one setup I've done. A flat top 4 and the surfboard pads.

Here is the flattop6 (30" wide) compared to the flattop4 (20" wide)

I've also done two of the flat top4 racks side by side. that would work just fine for your needs. If you look at my buddy's Subaru parked next to my Audi, he has the other pair of flatop4's that I used to use.

Yakima also has basically the same product, but theirs are called button down 4 and 6.

Be careful with the new thin profile ski carriers. I know that my Thule's are meant to carry skis or snowboards base to base, but the thickness of most wakeboards (slingshot might be the exception) means that I can only carry one board in a rack and not double stack them.

So I can mount two flat top 4s side by side?? that would work I think.

easily. pretty much any car would be able to take a pair of the flat top 4's. I run a 6 and a 4 on my Audi and only have a little bit of the load bars that stick out beyond the roof. with a roof as wide as you Exp, you'd EASILY be able to run a pair of the flat top 4's.

That said, I think thule might have discontinued the flat top 4's. so they're still around, but might be harder to find. You could always go with the Yakima Racks product and get the button down 4.

Does your expedition have factory roof rack crossbars? If so, you can typically get adapters to put the flat top's or the button downs on your factory crossbars and not have to buy the Thule/Yakima load bars, towers, and lock cores. All the stuff you see on the Audi starts to really add up.

yes it came with the cross bars from the factory. I wish they made one rack big enough for two boards, seems like it would be a little cheaper to buy one big rack as opposed to two small ones.

I haven't seen bigger than the 30" ones.

So If you get the "universal" flat top 4, they will come with the adapters that will allow them to attach to your factory crossbars.
