I read the article on here from engine nut about props and over/under working the engine. I took the boat out this weekend and I filled up the bags and had 3 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs and when I ran WOT I was only at 4200 rpm and doing about 30. When we got back to the house I looked at the prop and realized that it's beat up. It has dings and one of the blades has a big dent in it.
I guess my question is what do I need to do, should I try and have it repaired or should we look into buying a new prop? Also how can I tell what kind of prop I currently have, ie make, model, pitch...

Here's a picture of the prop

Sorry to see the carnage. Most have a prop repaired for a spare and get a new one. On the prop hub there should be a stamping of the manufactory and size. Take pictures and send to them. Most common prop is a OJ or Acme.

When you are non loaded what is your max rpm and speed......30 seems slow and 4200 seems low.......was that with that bent prop?

4600-5200 is your rpm range you want to hit at least 4600 when your fully loaded

Yes that was with the bent prop. I'm going to try and call Acme today and talk with them.

There is a prop review / comparison on here somewhere that was done a few years ago

I just got off the phone with Acme and they recommend the 1847, but when I look at which prop I should be running I find the 1433. The boat is used for wakeboarding mostly & maybe in the future wake surfing. So I'm torn between two lovers and don't know of which way to go.

Hey, I went through the prop search a while ago. What's your make and model? If you have a 1:1 transmission your generally best with a 3 blade prop even with the ballast. I originally ran a 4 blade Acme for all sports, did a lot of research and forum searching, contacted Acme and pulled the trigger on the 3 blade. I weight down with 1,200 LBS of ballast for surfing/wake boarding and still have a solid hole shot. Runs great all around.

Looks like they are the same prop , just more cup on the 1847 for better grip

I was finally able to get the old prop off the boat & it says it's 1" in diameter!! How does that work if the shaft is 1 1/8"?!?

So I guess it's time to get the Acme ;)

I have been using PropMD for repairs, ummmm not that I have ever hit anything...
They have done a great job so far with the three repairs I have had done:oops:

They also have some kind of exchange program as well which you may want to look into. Best thing for us was to buy a spare to keep in the boat and rotate them for repair. We go through one repair per year. Before this season we had really bad areas to boat in.

It has been $125 for a 4 blade repair (beats $600+ for new). I do ground shipping each way since I have a spare but they seem to to do the repair in a couple of days so if you did overnight you could have it back quickly. They have come back looking good (I don't get the polishing) and balanced. I haven't noticed any vibrations or other issues.

But why would someone put a 1 inch prop on a 1 1/8 inch shaft? I wouldn't mind fixing the prop to keep it as a backup, but I need to convince the wife that we need that new ACME 1847 prop.

You NEED the 1847!

After a few years I'm a believer. Can run 3k+ ballast and 6 people or more while wakeboarding and be on plane in 15 seconds. Or run empty and wide open and still hit 40+

The 1" to 1-1/8" situation is a bit weird. I'd put a caliper on both the shaft and prop. Wondering if maybe the prop could have been remachined by someone from 1 to 1-1/8????

I have also used PropMD - seem to be fast and quality work - and local (sort of) for me.
