So I noticed a squeal coming from my engine compartment , popped the "hood" and noticed water coming out of the back of the raw water pump. I figured something more than the impeller was wrong so I pulled the whole pump out and the ball bearings just litterly just fell out. I am going to put a new pump on. I am just curious to know if I can use the " Johnson brand" instead of the indmar pump? They look the same but I have no idea? Any advice would be appreciated.

You should be able to use a Johnson. Mine is not behaving as well - steady drip, to almost a stream now while the engine is running. I'm putting it off as long as possible but the time is coming.

Based on my research I need a Johnson 10-24805-01. Quite possible yours is the same.

I believe that the Johnson pump is the OEM for Indmar. So they don't just look the same, they are the same.

Hey,

They are super easy to replace. IF you notice it is leaking from the bearings, it needs to be replaced. You can have them rebuilt but its just a band aid. They generally run about 175.00 I believe. I will dig through and find my forum for my boat restoration and find the one I purchased and the link to it. Its not a difficult replacement. You might need to saturate the housing on the pulley face with PB Blast and let it sit in order to break it free but its as simple as pulling the 3 bolts and working it out. If its like mine it may take some persuasion but using a small dead blow and PB blast it will break free and come straight off.

New raw water pump has been installed and took no longer than 15 minutes, went easier than I thought it would!

Yes back on the water was off only for about a day and half ( time the pump took to get me ) honestly probably one of the easier things I have changed or repaired on the boat
