Has anyone tried to order the stepper motor directly from Lin Engineering? It's around 55 or 60 bucks online. But they give options to customize stuff. Do you think the perfect pass servo is an off the shelf stepper motor? Or customized? I suppose I could call and ask but I don't know if they would tell me.

The part number is 5618L-54-02 from Lin Engineering.

Stepper motors really only come in 2 configurations. The modern ones are generally 1.8 degree (200 steps per revolution) they vary in torque and rpm is controlled by voltage. In a nutshell anyway.

It looks like a typical Nema 23. Though round bodied steppers have been surpassed in strength and size by the square models. Of course manipulating a throttle shouldn't require any torque to speak of.
Here are the specs.

I think I will give them a call tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

It would be plug - and - play right?

Ok, so I re read your post. There are 2 different things mentioned. A servo and or a stepper. They are different animals entirely.
Servos usually confirm motion and fault out if none is sensed after a command.
Steppers usually expect the motion to have occurred as commanded.
There are of course many differences but again the vague idea.
They do require different drivers.

I know nothing about the Perfect Pass (yet). However I do have a few hobby CNC machines.

It's a step motor. I try to use that terminology but a lot of people call it a perfect pass servo.
