Got a inspection done and the dealer is trying to say maybe the strut rod is bent but this boat has never touched a rock!
What do you guys think? Motor alignment??

The dealer tried quoting me 4 hours for a motor alignment and they are not sure if it will fix it(I think they are playing dumb)
I read on here it could take a hour with the right tools so Ill depend on it taking three hours!!

Looks like the strut is actually bent. Wonder how much of a pain this is to change!

The rudder is actually purposely offset from the shaft. Due to prop rotation and the way water passes by the rudder from the prop (I'm sure someone can give a more scientific explaination) but I know my outback was the same and almost all inboards I've seen have an offset like your second pic.

The first pic however doesn't look right with the shaft rubbing on the port side of the hole.

Yah Im not sure if it needs a alignment or not. Im going to work on the hole in the muffler and I guess I'll double check the alignment of the engine.
The boat only has 84 hours! But maybe the alignment is out...?!
I got the bolt basically sold. Just need to remedy these issues.

Thanks...colin

Looks like the motor alignment was out from the factory....Perfect now.

Just saw this thread and was wondering if this condition created any noise? Occasionally, my outback will make a high pitched squealing noise when idling in gear.

My shaft is also like the above picture. Has been ever since I bought the boat and I've had the alignment done.

check your motor mount bushings for wear.....this will throw out your alignment.......btw maintenance says to check your alignment yearly.....i know no one ever does but again I am posting this again..... its an easy check, after a 5 times i would suggest replacing the nylocks as they can wear out

Uh, I check it at least annually. But I have installed my own replacement shaft so I'm scared.

What is the best method to check the alignment?

My mounts are all good. I did have one replaced a couple years ago

Nope. As hard as it is to admit it-- I'm just proving you right.
