Wake Surf Open at Lake Anna

Stopped at the ice cream parlor after dinner this evening. Sitting on a table was the local paper. Read about this event held last weekend at my lake. Top place for women went to someone by the last name of Wolfe. Is there something we should know? Is there a reason I didn't know about this event in advance so I could meet the family and cheer the athlete?

I know they got the crunkfest event coming up next weekend out there. Didn't realize the open was this soon.

Yep, I'm busted. Our schedule has been crazy. We sent the girls to Austin, TX on their own 3 wks ago for a competition. They had a great time. Taylor ended up 1st in Outlaw Surf and Jordi locked down 2nd in her Pro Surf debut.

We spent the next weekend at the PWT event in Acworth, GA. Got to spend some time with Mr. Tinker, the fine folks from Atlanta Marine, Woody & wife from the forum and the Supra Team Riders. They were awesome to our family. The girls even got to sign autographs with the rest of the team.

The girls left the PWT and headed to the NC beaches with Supra Team Rider Parker Payne & Family. My wife, son and I drove up to Lake Anna late on Thursday and met the girls there. They had decent runs and Taylor ended up 1st again in Outlaw Surf, 3rd in Outlaw Skim and Jordan 2nd in Pro Surf.

We raced out of VA Sat night with Taylor as she started a week long tennis camp at the Van Der Meer tennis facility in Hilton Head, SC Sunday afternoon. Jordi went to the SC photo shoot with the Paynes. My wife & Jack joined Jordi on Monday. Just got everyone back together late last night.

So sorry that I forgot to give a heads up. Would have really enjoyed meeting you.

Congrats on the finishes. How many folks on this forum are in the lake Anna area? I found out about the competition afterwards as well, I definitely would have come down!

Drew - I still have my fingers crossed that she can leverage this athletic talent into scholarship money or income from a pro contract. She is so good it would be great to see her talent recognized in a way that provides financial gain for her. Glad she is getting lots of parental support. WhiskeyRunner - We live on the north edge of Goochland County, about a thirty minute drive to Lake Anna and forty-five minute drive to downtown Richmond. Earlier in my career (1991 to 1993) we lived in northern Virginia (Stafford). Don't miss the insane traffic of northern Virginia. What part of Northern Virginia is home? How often do you get to the lake? Do you trailer back and forth or have your boat at a marina? - Deerfield

Stuart, thanks for the kind words. I'm not sure what or how this may factor into either of the girl's futures, but I hope the experiences that they have had traveling and competing establish a strong foundation for them, whatever it is they decide to pursue.

I live down in just south of Richmond. We spend our time on lake chesdin. Small lake but real close and convenient for us.
It would be cool to try to get together if anyone's up for it.

I live in Powhatan (about 25 minutes from Richmond) just across the 288 river bridge about 5 minutes from Watkins Landing at upper James. We do most of our boating at SML and occasionally James River. Only been to Anna a few times. I'm up for a get together sometime.

We boat at chesdin in chesterfield. Got a guy will a 2001 outback and my mojo out there pretty regularly surfing and such you guys should come on down one day on the weekend. Or we could all meet at Anna.

Bought from Southtown Watersports in Charlotte. Had to go south, no more local dealers. Bought the previous LSV from Nautical, they discontinued Moomba a couple years ago. How bout you, where did you buy?

I went to Asheville to barry capps marine, he was great. Tried to talk with performance boats out of Maryland but he wasn't real interested. Yeah when we were looking nautical had just stopped selling moomba and picked up mastercraft.

I haven't dropped into Lake Anna before, except to originally buy my boat, but a get together would be cool if there were local folks interested. I'm surrounded by Wake Setters and Mastercraft, not many Moomba's where I'm at :).
