I am working on my newly acquired 2008 Outback DD.

The rear main of the engine is leaking. I am suspicious of the front of the tranny too.

My intent is to tilt the motor forward/ or up in the back. Then pull the tranny off and fix both.

I have read that there was a possibility of removing the transmission mounts and not the mounts at the stringers.

There are two issues in my case. First, it was a salt water boat. Rust sucks but I used plenty of penetrating lube days in advance.

Second, is the fasteners are socket head cap screws. Any wrench collides with the mounts. Socket or L wrench. The only option even if pulling the motor would be to pull the lag screws from the stringers. Anybody else have this problem? I dont see any real problem, just curious of a better way. This way is just tedious.
