I have searched the forum and could not find a definitive fix for the platform moving up and down. Is there a permanent fix other than new brackets? Is gel work needed for new brackets? I don't have any stress cracks and would like to fix this before I get them!

Thanks,

I used composite door shims and wedged them between the bracket mounted on the boat and the platform bracket that slides in. Put em in years ago and haven't had a rattle since.

Some guys have dropped pennies or washers in there. Not sure how they get them out if they have to remove though. Try searching on platform rattle.

I use locking washers. With the locking washers you can wedge it down in the crack, but you can still get needle nose pliers and pull them out if you need to take the platform off. Has worked great for me for the past few years.

I used lock washers then I took the platform brackets to a friend and had him weld aluminum beads across the worn areas to build them back up. Now with my FAE attached to it out doesn't have any ability to wiggle

I used large flat washers on past rides, put a 45' bend on them to grab on if needed to take out.

I think I'm going to try this. My rattle isn't too bad cuz I always strap the platform down tight to the trailer for the 40 min ride to the river and back so it's not bouncing the whole day. But, we have to remove it every time we get home to get her in the garage. Need a quick removal option.

I used large split washers that were easy to fish out, when needed.

I drilled & tapped holes in mine so I could run set screws in. Swim platform does not rattle at all in 3 years, haven't touched it since.

Did you find a self-tapping stainless set screw? Or just tap it and then replace with a stainless set screw?

I just tapped it and then used brass set screws (west marine had them). I think they were 10-24 threads if I remember correctly.

Crap. Now I have to find my tap & die set. Haven't seen it since before we moved here 2 1/2 years ago.

KevKev,

Do you have any pictures of what you did with the set screws?

I will put some up this weekend. I think I've posted it either on here or the Supra forum before, but I didn't find them when I searched.

just ran to Home Depot and grabbed some of the composite shims and they seem to work great. Awesome idea!

Here are a few pictures of what I did. I drilled & tapped the brackets that mount to the transom and ran 2 set screws on each side of each bracket (8) total. I think I used 10-24 ss set screws.
