Hey guys ... just wondering if anyone has used these/what their thoughts are?

Just wanting to know what amount of light comes off them and if they are even worth the time/$$$.

Thanks

I think someone tried one of them a year or two ago and they wake plate was in the way.

Not sure if its the same one your referring to without a link.

need boater4life to reply. I know that he bought one and was experiencing the wakeplate being in the way on the mondo.

not sure what his ultimate solution was.

I tried a few and the ones that worked with the wakeplate weren't all that bright. Kinda like me.

I tried one on my 2014 Mondo. Wakeplate got in the way. No luck.

I have one and had to grind it slightly to kit. I need to wire it in still. Maybe if I get a weekend without soccer or tennis, I can work on the boat.

Here is where the dilemma started.

Here is where I went in my mind, lol. It works but is extremely ugly. Needless to say I'll probably be sending back my light.

This is the enemy of boating and enjoying the water. This is what is keeping me from landing my 360!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just tell people it is a backup camera then everyone will want it.

No one sees it once you are in the water. With mine on a lift, that solution may be a good call.:)

ok I may get banished for this but I sold my 05 Mobius and purchased a super air antique 210 TE. so far I must say it is night and day vs the Mobius. but anyway I still frequent this forum bc all the nautique ones suck. I have been looking at the plug light and considering it. I don't have the wakeplate issue anymore so can anyone just say how bright they are? im sure they are not as good as transom leds but at less than half the cost plus NO HOLES makes it a top contender.

How's that setup look under water at night? I don't care too much about the aesthetics of something thats going to be underwater anyways....

I'm not sure because I haven't used it yet. I took it out to change the oil which is where another one of the problems comes in. Because of the close proximity to the stern and the wakeplate, each section of that contraption has to be taken apart individually (which is awkward to do while having the power wires running through them). Not only is it a pain to remove all of that but I have this major fear that its going to break while I'm out on the big lake a few miles from home and then have to deal with something under water that I can't see.....

Where???????

I bought this one because it's supposedly 9watts of CREE LED's.

I figured for $30 it wouldn't be a big risk financially.

This is what i use and I think it works great fro the price. Easy to wire up. I taped right into the open wire in the rear driver side compartment for the all around light that is not used due to the light on the tower but the wire is still there.

How is the output? Do you have a wakeplate that gets in the way as well?

I was quoted about $400 for labour to install 2 x transom LEDs and the thought of cutting into the hull just for some lighting seems ridic to me. But I have seen it in person and DAMMN it looks good at night :D

Don't be shy. between my surf system and my transom lights, I put over 50 holes in my last boat! Maybe I should have called it the Supra "Swiss Cheese".

These were DIY lights, not the drain plug light.

ahhhhh great vid!! did you ever use em in the dark? no rules here for riding at night so we usually stay out well after the sun is down.

Curious to know how well they lit up the wake ...

The alternative is a lightbar facing the rider but I have heard from a few others that it can be quite blinding

That was mostly in the dark, but the cam adjusts pretty well to low light conditions.

I mostly ride on the Columbia River between WA and OR. The law in OR is that you can't ski/wakeboard/surf behind the boat at sunset. In WA however, the law is that you have 1 hour after sunset. We've been riding at dusk before and had the sheriff pull up by us and they didn't sweat us. However it wasn't that dark yet...

As the evening progresses, you're riding a lot by feel and the wake is reasonably lit by the transom lights. it's mostly effect, but it certainly does add a significant benefit for the rider.

I would definitely not like tower lights. Plus, it'd be quite attention attracting and I'm not sure I'd want that.

When the rider falls, it's REALLY hard for the boat driver to see them. Downright scary. I actually picked up the Ronix LED vest (because I'm a sucker for LED's) and while it's a little gimmicky, it's a legit benefit for the boat driver to see the rider in the water in the dark.

I think this was my last set that night, and you can see how the LED vest is helpful.

Gotcha. we have always just tied those dollar store glowsticks to each side of the lifejacket :D It does the trick but you are right ... still very hard to see. Getting a forward facing LED light rack installed soon so we can see when we are pulling up to them.

GHow many transom lights are installed in your vid?

I should really look into what the exact law is here ... I have seen a family going out for a night surf at 11:30PM so I am guessing there might be zero rules!! But who knows

I have six of them in the video. they are made with LED's that have 30 of the SMD5050 chips each. Each of the lights was around a 4.5 watt draw if I remember right.

So, I finally did a test fit of my drain plug LED light.

It fits just fine on my XLV and has zero issues with the wakeplate.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6LmYvnU8hr4/VUxFD2glenI/AAAAAAAAY08/CP2JTModu4s/s800/20150507_211934.jpg

And a 1" box/open wrench fits perfectly on the head of the plug. So, that's the good news.

On the down side, you're not going to be overwhelmed with the brightness of it. I did a test and it's basically the same brightness as my other lights that I made myself that use a board with 30 of the SMD5050 chips. And with that level of brightness, I'd want 4 to 6 of the units to be happy. 1 would be better than nothing I suppose. But it's really a supplement not something that's going to be the entirety of your transom lights.

My leds. I stole the idea from the plug light product and drilled a hole in my plug and ran the wires through it then sealed it up with 5200.

there is a local guy that makes them and sells them. He now has a 3 head design as well. I am trying to get in tough with him to see if I can get one.

I'm curious about this as well. I've been seeing these Diablo lights showing up on facebook and ebay. They look like they might work but I'm just a little leary about them.
