Well I took my 08 möbius out yesterday and it ran perfect like it always has. We were heading back to ramp and stopped at a friends house for about 30 mins. Got in it to leave started it up eased away from their dock and all the sudden started running real rough and cut off couldn't get it started back but once and same thing. Ended up having to get swim it back to the dock and that's where she sits as of now.

Any ideas?

If it's not vapor lock it could be time for a fuel pump.

It does sound like optimal vapor lock conditions (run the boat then sit for 30 minutes.)

what was the temp yesterday where you were at?

ways to prevent/correct:

don't run gas that contains ethanol
add blue marine stabil to gas that contains ethanol
run blower while out & while at rest
open up rear hatches to let heat escape
replace fuel filter
pour cold water on fuel filter

I was out yesterday evening, temps were around 87 at the highest. This whole thing happened right at sunset

Do a search for vapor lock. Pretty sure that is your issue. Sounds like the situation was spot on for it.

I have been reading all about it all day. And I agree that seems like it should be the issue. Been working a 24 hr shift today and it is killing me not being able to get out there to check on it.

Gunna take a new fuel filter out there tomorrow if I can find one. Which I'm assuming shouldn't be a problem?

fuel filter is a WIX 33299

I was under the impression that vapor lock was a non issue on the newer EFI engines. Also if it was vapor lock it proably wouldn't have started at all. Bad gauge and no fuel? you never know it's usually the simplest answers if learned.

It can't hurt to try changing the fuel filter, but i would go ahead and start up the boat before and see how it runs. I bet it doesn't miss a beat- like there was never an issue.

No, I get vapor lock on my efi engine. The issue is related to the location of the fuel pump relative to the block and the heat of the block traveling into the fuel pump and vaporizing the fuel.

Thanks for all the helpful info.

It's definitely not out of fuel as I just filled her up

I will report back tomorrow after I get back to the boat

by any chance - did you happen to notice a strong smell of exhaust before it quit running and hear a "pop" as it quit?

No I didn't notice any of that

But I went out there today and it started first key turn like nothing ever happened...

I went to two stores and haven't found a fuel filter yet. So I haven't changed it. But it ran perfect and I got it on the trailer!

Thanks for all the info. This has to be what it was...

It's vapor lock. Classic symptoms. Next time just pour some cold water over the fuel pump and it will start up. Has happened to me 2 times. You don't need to change the fuel filer unless it oath wise needs it.
