Best Boat Garage Dimensions

I'm looking to build a new house and am finalizing the boat garage layout.

I'm going 30ft deep and 12 ft wide, but how high should I go!?

Also, what garage door size to pick?

I don't want to mess with taking my tower down either!

Oh and it's a 2008 LSV with standard tower, I just can't remember how high it is when trailered...

I store mine in a 12 x 30 garage with a 10 foot high door, might be 11. but do not have to put the tower down and have plenty of room to walk around and even store stuff behind the boat.

my shop is 12ft ceilings with a 101/2 ft. door height. Went 6in higher than standard to be able to get my camper and ac unit to fit. 10 should do it?

My shop also has 12' ceiling with a 10' x 10' door. Don't have to lower the tower, no issues.

With a 10x10 door are you guys finding it a tight fit at all!?

I don't know the price difference between doors but if it's significant I might go 10x10 to save some money.

The way I'll be setting it up, should be a straight shot in reverse so hopefully no issues with going in at an angle

I back mine straight in to a 10'x10' opening with no problems.

I went with a 10x12 door with 14 ceiling. Our boat wouldn't clear a 10ft door height.

I'd say if you plan to be in this house (and boat) for some time to come definitely plan to go with a wider/bigger door if the budget allows. So much less stressful to back in with room to spare vs. cutting it tight. Something you wont' regret in the long term. Especially putting it away in the dark after a long day in the sun and suds.

I have vowed that our next house will have room to spare with both the boat and the trailer. Backing that sucker in at 36'8" bumper to tongue without a little wiggle room is a real treat.

I went with a 12x12 and 14x16 door. My thought is the bigger the better. You can never tell when an upgrade might require larger dimensions.

When I bought my boat, I had the seller measure the dimensions. He measured out 10'6" with the tower up. That might be a little high, but I wouldn't chance it. I'd go for the 11' door.

I can measure my boat tonight if you'd like...

One thing I'd do if I was building a boat garage is put racks for the boards right next to the boat so you can stand in the boat and put the boards into the racks from the boat. And a hanging rod for life vests and wetsuits. That would be so awesome to just stand in the boat in the garage and be able to hand up all the boards and gear w/o stepping out of the boat.

True! And yes this is our home for the long term and it's 400 yards from the lake. Prolly should just do it right with room to spare!

I think you're on the right track with a 12' door. The previous owner of mine had a 10x10 and had some damage to the door trim where the tow point didn't quite fit the first time - it was close. He was able to get into the garage without lowering the tower but he had to unscrew the cap on the tow point. Long story short: my boat height is 10' + an inch or two. ('07 LSV)

I can't fit in a 10' tall door and I would think any new boat out today will not either so I would absolutely go 12' for future possibilities.

Go as big as possible if your building it. It will help the resale value to label it as an RV garage...well I guess you don't have the length, but still bigger is better! I heard the 2017 Mojos will need a 12' door lol

My 2007 supra 21v will not fit through a 10' tall door. it is about 2" to tall.

I would go 14 ft high for the door. This in case you ever purchase an RV.
