So I want to basically do a cargo net that covers my rear lockers. I would put them right above the height of my ballast fully filled. I'm thinking it would be easy storage for jackets, ropes & maybe some chairs.
I've seen some threads where they do cargo net on the lid or side panel but I think a "tray" of some sort floating over the ballast bag would offer great storage.
Anyone done this or can offer me tips or advice? Thanks!

I have only heard of the cargo nets for ropes, and small items. I just got mine in but haven't installed them yet.
I would be careful about not adding too much weight to the under side of the V doors, might cause warping, and also when you open the doors they will want to slam shut a lot easier.
My theory is if you have sooo much room in your compartment while the bags are full to store all that gear, then you need bigger bags bwahahaha

I have had this on my to-do list for years! It's hard when the boat is normally so far from home.
I can give some advice on an inexpensive material, though: the cheap netted laundry bags that can be had at most home supply stores. I currently use them for carrying gear, such as floatation vests, ropes and helmets. They are fairly durable and don't rot.

THIS!!!
Need MOAR Ballast!!!
That said, if you want something semi-permanent that is a shelf above the bags and don't ever plan on utilizing that space below your shelf when the bags are empty, I could see a plastic coated mesh shelf like you see in closets and pantries. the white mesh stuff they sell at home depot.
