Hey guys! Just wanted to keep a running thread of the modifications I am doing to my 2000 Moomba Outback. Appreciate any input or advice as this will be a long coming project. I am currently deployed but will be back shortly so some of the purchases I will show I haven't even seen or started yet. Come April it will be in full swing and you will see some head way on it!

This first picture is the day I bought the boat. As you can see it had some CRAZY oxidation and a trailer that was on its last leg.

BEFORE:
21491

AFTER WITH NEW TRAILER:
As you can see I did some work and tried to clean up the Gel Coat. I did a few passes with a buffer and Rubbing Compound. Once I did that I came back through and gave it 2 coats of wax. Still didn't get it to where I wanted it though.
21493

After dealing with a hard decision on the route I wanted to take to fix the oxidation on the boat I decided that I would remove all my vinyls, wet sand, rubbing compound and wax/polish the boat. Get her back to her glory days. I started with 600 Grit one time through on the hull, followed by 1800 two times, and the 2600 two times. This process alone took me about 30 hours. It was extremely rough but the results were outstanding and it kept me going. Once I finished that up I went through with a rotary polisher and did the entire hull with Heavy Oxidation remover rubbing compound. Once I finished that up a went through and hand waxed and polished the hull two more times. As you can see this is one heck of a process but the results below speak for them selves.

21495

21497

This was a major undertaking. Lessons learned; buy a ton of sand paper. You will gunk the wet sand paper up in a matter of minutes. Get a sanding block, this will allow you to have an even pressure all the way through. spray off the area as soon as your done with it, it will give you immediate feed back on your results which will help you keep going. last but not least, bring a friend. this was absolutely exhausting!

So once I got the exterior squared away, I wanted to start working on the sound system. It was a pretty big mess, and I don't have the money to spend on Exile, or other top end systems out there. So I was working with what I had, and it turned out pretty good.

I didn't have the chance to really finish this up, and it was a learning process for me since I had very little experience in audio systems. I have done a bit of research since I have been gone and will get back in there and finish it up once I get home. I am going to swap out all the speakers with the 6" Kickers w/ LED lights, Replace the tower speakers with kickers, and install the Exile Equalizer.

Something else that I added, since I was planning to add new cabin lighting and the exile speaker LEDS was a new switch panel to control all the additional lighting I will be installing. These are hooked up to the two distribution panels you see below the amps, so I can route all my future lighting project to them and control it from the switch panel. I just used my Craftsman Multi Tool and cut out a section through the fiberglass, wired it into the batteries, with an on of switch.

So as I continued to make my way through the boat I had some old nasty Hydro Turf in the bow walk way. The previous owner did a horrible job on it so I wanted to pull it out.

Some of the things I have already purchased while I have been gone and will be working on are listed below;

New Manifolds
News Risers
New Hardware
New Gaskets
It was pricey, but the old ones were shot and totally rusted out. The total was right around 917.00 after shipping and taxes.
http://www.marineexhaustmanifolds.com/indmar-marine-engines-and-parts.htm

New Moomba CHROMAX decals for the sides, now that the boat is all cleaned up and ready for new decals.
Again, very pricey for these as well but it will look sick. 209.00 per side
http://www.waterskis.com/110150-p/moomba_chrome_decal_large.htm

New Registration Numbers to match the Moomba Chroma
Not too bad on the price I believe after shipping it was 69.00 for a full set.
http://shop.domednumbers.com/products/moomba-registration

I also replaced the fuel pump, and it went out right before I left. Ran me right around 145.00 after shipping and taxes.
http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RA080018

I will get pictures of all this mid April once I get back to it, and try and get all these projects done before boating season officially kicks off!

If anyone has any questions on anything I have done or recommendations please let me know! I appreciate any input!

After talking with liquid_acid about the perfect pass system and install I think I am going to go ahead and bite the bullet and get the Perfect Pass Stargazer Wake Edition S

Looking at about 1,200.00 for it but it seems like it will really be worth it!

SO after doing some research I pick up a new 3 Blade Acme Prop.
http://www.wakemakers.com/acme-543-propeller.html
21636

I also picked up the replacement hardware kit. So after shipping it was right around $415.00.

I talked with a few companies to find out that my 1:1 drivetrain ratio make for more effective use out of a 3 blade than the 4 blade. So I am pulling off my 4 blade Acme Prop, getting it resurfaced, and will have it as my spare prop.

Personally, I think that the stargazer GPS edition is overrated. I ride on a river with current and the GPS is worse as you have to set it for one speed if you're going upstream and change it if you turn and go downstream. Plus the GPS is more expensive than the Wakeboard Pro paddlewheel edition.

If I didn't have anything on my boat, I'd save some money and get this:

http://www.hydrophase.com/sites/all/themes/ridesteady/images/v_1_0/hydrophase_ridesteady_kit.jpg

I agree, I LOVE having speed control on my boat. and I happen to have the PP wakeboard pro. But paying extra for the GPS really only saves you some time/hassle on the install.

Guess I forgot to mention that aspect of the gps. I ride on a lake with little to no current so I am not affected by this. Good call. I do love my PP stargazer wake edition though. I can finally ride at a consistent speed. It seemed I was getting pulled at either 16 or 33mph.

I have the occasional current where I'm at but nothing substantial. But I am also moving up to VA, and not sure exactly where I will be riding at. I'm torn at this point. As you know, having that speed control is essential, just a hard point decision right now. I also look at the resale on this one a little bit. Seems like having the name, "Perfect Pass" would go a little farther when ever I decide to part with the old girl and go for a newer Moomba! If I'm off base on that feel free to let me know.

As always, I really appreciate the input. Keep it coming guys, all it can do is make my boat better!

I agree with this comment 100%. I would not look at a boat that did not have perfect pass.

Turned out pretty good, and has a good texture to it. I planned on hydro turfing the platform but I don't think I need to anymore.

Anyone who wants to do this, buy several cans more than you think you need. I used 1 can of white to prime the surface, 4 cans of blue, and 1 can of clear. I honestly could have used another can of blue to even it out more and another can of clear. Not hard to use, goes on just like spray paint.

I'll keep you guys posted on how it holds up on the water, high traffic, sun, etc.

This is really interesting because the stuff is able to be picked off when you get tired of it. Most of us would not have tried it for this application. So, we are interested in hearing your thoughts. I doubt many of us will transform our factory platforms. But, as folks construct their own surf platforms in various shapes, this might be something that is extremely helpful. So, thanks for taking the time to share your efforts and results.

Have to send the boat in for some heavy hitting. Tried everything under the sun to get the manifolds off and just don't have the tools for it. Dropping it off tomorrow to have it air chiseled off. Once that's done I'll throw on the new manifolds and risers.

I hope they are careful. There was a guy on here once upon a time who took his somewhere and they tried an air chisel to get his stuck oil filter off. Ended up cracking the block on a motor with less than 25 hrs. on it. Gotta be careful with those specialty tools.

So won't the plastic dip flake off?

This will be interesting to see in the long term.

I had the Moomba plasti-Dipped and it nver peeled from the water, but it wasn't put under the same pressure the platform is.

Now I can say I plasti-Dipped the Mojo 2.5 and Moomba on the rear sections, thats pretty much permanent at this time. Every time I tried to remove it the leters wanted to peel off. So I just left it now lol.

I used paint, Plasti Dip doesn't come out nearly as smooth as paint. I would only suggest Plasti dip of small surface areas or areas you want to have some traction and aren't concerned about 100% even coverage.

Hey, I have found an engine. As much as I wanted to put an Indmar back in I just didn't have the money to afford one. I got my hands on a 5.7 350 Mercruiser. Still comes with a lot of power and a very reliable engine with an abundance of parts. I don't have an plans to boost the power right away. Broke the bank because of all these issues!

Problems Continued... So the engine is in and running however, the oil cooler was shut and causing the oil and water to mix... So I have ordered a new oil cooler and will have that done next week. Also my alternator decided to start shooting out fluctuating current so I am just going to go ahead and replace that as well as my oil pressure gauge which isn't reading correctly after switching out the sending unit.

So that being said, hopefully I'll have her back by this coming Friday and start updating you guys again.
