Can't let Russ have all the fun. Something new for our 'off season'

Back in the saddle after about a 15 yr break. My 12yr old figured out how to work the clutch quick. His older sis, not so much.

Might gets some pics later this month, Currently Boat is at the Dealer, then it probably sit in Exile's wharehouse a couple weeks. We are in the midst of a full on house refresh.

We just bought new sofas, chairs, dinning room table, chairs, and having all the carpet removed and Pergo XP Floors installed. House will be a wreck until end of March. Looks like most of my weekends are tied up until them with moving everything to the garage, removing base boards, re-painting base boards, door frames, and window sills. Claudia got this bright idea she wanted to change the colors of them lol. Which really means I change the colors lol.

What you did not tell her no? Remember she enjoys boating at much as you so she is not going to take that away from you.

Also I need to get out on the water this month so be looking forward to a invite on the 15th or 28th. It just needs to stop getting below 30* at night again.

Well she let me buy the Mojo in 13 and we did the Flow in 14.
So this year she finally gets Home Upgrades.

I don't plan to skip Sundays if they are nice, trust me LOL.

15th is doable if the weather is decent, 28th is doable as well. By the 28th everything should be done. Floors go in 23-25th and I expect to have all or most of the base boards installed by then.

Yes I agree on the freezing temps but PNW always has a cold blast the start of March and after that we keep warming up. Can you believe this Sunday is Daylight Savings time already LOL.

Nah, just fussy. You guys ride about as much as we do in a typical year. You have to go to extremes. We don't. We do most of our riding under near ideal conditions. BTW, I have trunked it in the Columbia River on a day nobody much else wanted to get wet. I'd be out now but FL folks are finishing up softball and baseball before the heat comes and I have no crew. Soon though.

When I had a Hobie Cat living in Florida, I never got out until April. It is easy to get burned out with the season so long. Actually around here I don't get out until July but I cram a whole season into three months. Either way, I was boated out by the end of the season and ready to do something else.

Yup. When football season starts there's nobody on the water. Hard to get anyone to keep going even though we have 2 more ideal months at that point. There's something going on every weekend. Wish they would start football in Nov. and run it thru Feb.

YES me and my crew say this all the time. If Football was from Nov to April it would fill my year out so nicely. Instead the first few months I only follow my team and only watch the game if its bad weather, or recorded LOL.

Well we spent the last week riding a different kind of board over water in a slightly different state. Hit up Keystone, CO with my wife, cousin, and my wife's cousin. It snowed literally every day we were there. Awesome conditions but it was pretty sketchy driving. From Lubbock, TX all the way to Trinidad, CO the roads looked about like this

Great day at Ocotillo Wells, CA.

My favorite lake got a "new" ramp but still doesn't solve the fact that the water is only 3 ft deep immediately behind the ramp. Hoping for rain to fill the lake back up.http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/07/381ceac30418c61719bba0854f497dd0.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/07/04936e9f97ad5c66a0c356f64e4c397c.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/07/d008a56ee23eff2666eabbecdc09c15c.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/07/de7f95e5209e94da0c667d85b338724d.jpg

Need to get some better pictures with better angles. These where quick shots at the shop. The fronts now fill the fenders, old ones seemed to narrow to me. Rears are actually 3/4 narrower but .5 taller.

I have a lowering kit but never got time last year to install it. I think it will really give it a nice right height with it installed now.

Thanks Viking, Yes I actually bought the drop kit last year but never got it installed. Once the Boat goes in the garage no more work gets done really. I plan to get it on this year. It should make it look really mean.

I almost forgot. I got to ride on Sunday! I even got closer to my goal of a "triple board day". I wakeboarded and wakesurfed on Saturday and Snowboarded on Sunday. Actually, I'm just about there if you consider I did all three in 24 hours.

Just about got the roast beef grab on the new slingshot board.

Went to the lake this weekend and the weather man lied. Sun never really came out and it I don't think it ever broke 70 and the wind never stopped blowing.

The lake and River were both a wreck from all the rain last week. Logs and debris adrift everywhere. Some
I swear we're full sized trees. We had to build a bridge to get to the boat house due to the walkway being underwater

Nice looking wave there in #2 Brett

Don't have anything worth contributing. Camped out at the beach, had 3" of rain and high winds the whole time. Aside from trying to kill my future son-in-laws on the bumper cars spent most of the weekend examining the bottom of beer cans.

I haven't been able to get any real projects done on the boat, but this weekend I'll be installing this;
21569

Fusion MSIP700i
Fusion wired remote

I also have a wifi router and spare iPhone for the Fusion Remote app.

Should be a pretty slick setup, way better than the Sony headunit I have now.

I am also going to redo some LED stuff in the boat, might get to that this weekend too.

So help me understand... you're getting a deck that connects to your iphone if it's tucked away inside the deck. But, if you have wifi from a router, then you can use your iphone to control the deck... SO you've got a 2nd iphone to act as a remote, yes?

Why even bother? Why not just run the music from your iphone in the first place to your aux input? If you're going to lengths to have a deck that is controlled by a phone, why not eliminate the middle man and just use the phone as the source and control it directly?

I've got the MB Quart headunit that has an aux input (wired into the glove box), a USB input, and an ipod hookup. That all goes to my WS420sq. the aux input of my 420 goes to a car dock that is attached to my driver's windshield so I can control music from the driver's seat easily. Otherwise, I can do pretty much anything I want with the wired remote that's above the throttle.

Don't get me wrong, I love gadgets and tech, I just don't know what the fusion really offers beyond what I have now. (maybe I just don't get it because I'm not an iphone guy and have an android phone?)

The iPhone I use as a phone (and source of all of my music playlists) will be connected to the headunit in the boat. I have a second iPhone (my left over 5 after I got the 6) will go into a waterproof case to act as a wireless remote.

This headunit has zone control through the iPhone app, so I can use the "remote" iPhone to adjust volume and track and everything else from outside the boat, be it at at the sandbar, while wake boarding, or surfing.

This will eliminate the ZLD, Kicker Dual Zone Control (I use that to adjust volume of the 2 pairs of tower speakers independently as desired) and the (crap quality) RF remote for my Sony headunit, and give me more versatile control.

Plus I like gadgets.

cool. I like to see how other people use tech.

Doesn't fit my needs/desires, so I guess I'm safe from another gadget purchase (for now)

Crap, I deleted my writeup and pics. by editing my post (above). oh well.

So today was the first saturday of spring. 48.5 degree water on the Columbia River and 59 air temp.

I started the morning snowboarding with some fresh snow and it snowing during the morning at Mt Hood Meadows. left the resort, had some amazing BBQ brisket for lunch, then got home. took a quick nap, then looked at the weather forecast and loaded the boat for the maiden voyage of 2015.

took the 15 minute drive to the launch (pic taken at stoplight)
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TEj7Nsxc_BU/VQ41LuZgH8I/AAAAAAAAYWo/AWam0uNwc-s/s800/3-21%2520boat.jpg

A little windy at the launch as typical, so 15 minute ride to our usual spot. Found great water:

I've had a bucket list goal of having a snowboard/wakeboard day for a LONG time. I modified to to be the goal of a "triple board day" with snowboard/wakeboard/wakesurf happening in one day.

My 2nd 'board' of the day was wakeboard.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zBcGPUr_fxc/VQ41LRnFKxI/AAAAAAAAYWo/9YBTphPtcFc/s800/3-21%2520boating.jpg

I finished off and completed the goal with a few wakesurf sets. I was pretty stoked. The ballast system upgrade worked great, the new floor was great and the new subwoofers and tower speaker amp performed as expected.

All in all it was a great first trip of 2015 and now I can cross off the 'triple board day'.

Love my XLV

with as cold as you mention that your lakes are early season over there, I'm kind of surprised that you haven't kicked out on a drysuit. I LOVE mine. Although it's a weird feeling to be putting on my snowboarding first layer shirt and my mountain hardwear windblock fleece pants to get in the water. I guess it works well, wearing snowboarding layers for wakeboarding/surfing.

You would think I would invest in a dry suit. This year is just warm, this time last year there was still ice on the lake. Wetsuits are good from June on. What kind of dry suit do you have? Spendy?

trayson

I have the O'neill boost drysuit. AWS and Wakemakers have it for $400. However, I got mine for the WM black Friday sale at the end of 2013. With 20% off, that's $320. Some people like the assault because it hugs your legs like a wetsuit on the bottom but you're still dry underneath.

On Sunday, I wakeboarded, slalom skied and wakesurfed in my drysuit and it did just fine.

I found out quickly when the water temp is in the 40's that booties and needed when surfing. but I got some booties on sale for ~$30 or so. I had some offbrand neoprene gloves too. With the gloves and booties and drysuit, I quit riding when I'm tired, NOT because I'm cold. and when I get back on the boat, I'm basically dry. I get a tiny bit of water sometimes at the neck and wrists on my midlayer shirt I wear under it. But what I typically do is bring my drysuit/gloves/booties with fleece pants and a midweight firstlayer shirt in a small duffle bag. After I'm done, I put my wet booties/gloves back in the duffle with the drysuit, take off the midweight shirt if it's damp at the neck/wrists and put a totally dry shirt back on. I put all the "wet" gear back in the duffle and then let it dry and air out when I get home. No wet gear to mess with on the boat.

When I'm surfing, I will sometimes not wear a life vest because there's so much air in the drysuit that you're plenty buoyant. But when I wakeboard or ski, I still wear a vest for safety's sake.

I rode in my wetsuit in 52 degree water before I had my drysuit and it was bearable in the water, but I got cold enough I had to stop. then it was miserable in the boat and I couldn't get that wetsuit off quick enough (wind + wetsuit is brrrr, although I guess the newer wetsuits are a lot better at being more windproof and stuff).

It's seriously extended my season. No way in hell I'd be riding in the 48 to 49 degree water in my old wetsuit. Although my buddy was totally comfy in his higher end 4/3 wetsuit Thursday, so either is a viable option for upper 40 degree water. The coldest I've done was 42 and everyone had a drysuit then.

Thats what I'm thinking too! Doubt the moomba code would bring the cost down as far as the black friday deal @ wakemakers and seasons start is approaching. Although could probably get 1-2 months head start if I had one NOW

Black Friday = 20%
Moomba code = 10%

so you're talking about saving an extra $40 by waiting until next winter.

Or an extra $5 per month for the next 8 months to have it NOW!!!!
