View Full Version : New Bimini!

I spoke with someone this weekend about extending off the back of my Bimini. They don't think it would help much because it is so high. They suggested making a new Bimini similar to this Malibu.

Would be black with a Brittany blue stripe in the middle.

The only thing that sucks is I loose a lot of head room & won't be able to stand straight up. Plus it would have to relocate my speakers (that aren't yet mounted).

Thoughts?

To each their own, but I personally think the Moomba one is nicer. Sounds like your sacrificing a lot for a little extra shade.

Less Head Room
Relocate Speakers
Troublesome to set up and take down

Guess that depends on the angle of the sun.

If you're having it made - I'd still go over the tower. Keep your headroom and your speakers.

Over the tower, headroom is too important. Personally I like the size of the stock bimini

I would go higher, over the tower, or what ever. I hate bumping my head, or having to lean over to try and avoid hitting it.

Thoughts?

I think if you extend that far back into the cabin, you will either need to move your surf rope to the rear ski pylon or risk damaging the bimini.

That's a good START. Just need to extend it from the tower all the way to the AFT like a full front to back pontoon bimini. Tim "the tool man" Taylor that bad boy!

I say you install a hard top cover and install a water slide like a pontoon boat... best of both worlds then!

I've actually seen a Mastercraft with a bimini setup just like that (except the back was open) in my parent's neighborhood. Pretty sure they were year round skiers. It looked, uh, interesting.

So I talked to another upholsterer today. He was really cool and new exactly what I wanted. More shade, don't loose head room & not ugly.

He's going to extend the front about 8" with new poles. He's also going to sew in a surf board pocket in the front going width wise. I was going to do 2 going length wise but i think the fins would get in the way of the rope.

He's also going to extend the back out 2-4 feet & angle down so the rope doesn't rub on it.

Also cut a round hole in my snap in carpet where my plug access is. It's a pain to always undo the carpet to get to it.
