View Full Version : What is this wire lead for?

I'm in the process of retrofitting my ballast system. I've pulled the factory fill pump and the 3 factory sprinkler valves. All of those are 2 conductor deustch connectors.

Bundled with those connectors was a 4th wire loom that has 3 conductors and a 3-prong deustch connector. The lead on this wire is a lot longer than the ones from the ballast pump and valves. probably stretches another 18" I believe the wire colors are brown, brown/white, and black.

Does anyone know what this is for? If it's something that was pre-wired and never used, so be it. But I'm concerned that somehow I unhooked something that needs to be hooked up.

Ejector seat lead?

More likely for the bilge pump as it may need another wire for the float switch and two for the pump itself.

That would be logical. Most bilge pumps are on a 3-way switch (on/off/auto). That would be a critical device to have PLUGGED IN!!!

brn/wht wire looks to be bilge.

Can you stick a volt meter in there and flip switches until you get something? That oughtta tell you what it goes to!

One will be ground, another continous hot for the float switch and another switched at the console. An elaborate connector for the bilge pump.

Definitely the Flux Capacitor

For the paddle wheel? Is your speedo GPS controlled?

That's what I'm thinking.

Definitely the Flux Capacitor

1.21 Gigawatts!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope. the paddle wheel I can see and it has more wires coming off it. It's also not the depth gauge transducer.

I'm banking on the bilge pump.

Or is the blue wire? Yea, the blue wire.

That is for the automatic up down switch for the AutoOz Retracting Tower that they were going to introduce in 2009. It unfortunately never came to fruition as the few installs they did ended up with numerous recalls and ended up being price prohibitive. There were also feed back issues with the tower speakers due to ohm impedance that increased inversely proportional to the negative square root of the boats rpm's.

Makes sense then. Too bad though.

.....that increased inversely proportional to the negative square root of the boats rpm's.

Sounds like a double negative to me but I can buy that.

Is that like the rear spoiler on some sports cars that changes angle at higher speeds for more down force?

It was definitely the wire for the bilge pump. they didn't really put much extra wire into that run. I plugged it back in. I've heard the bilge pumps are kinda nice to have!

The bilge pump should never be used. Remember rule number 6 of the boat. No water allowed in the boat.

No water, just beer.
