Has anybody changed the way the observers seat back opens? I was thinking about hinging it at the top and adding a gas cylinder to prop it up when open. Don't like the way it opens into the walkway.

All the newer ones open like this.

you will need to glue something like Sea Board to the back side of the seat to mount the strut too, maybe even an entire frame for the rigidity.

Take a look at some of the new boats to help with your idea.

Another thing you might need to look at is how the cushion is shaped at the top edge.

Thought about doing this when we did the new interior since we changed everything else. But the curve is so round (on mine anyway) that mounting even a couple small hinges would have cause them to want to bind when opening...

Looking at it front the front it seemed doable. Looking at it more from the top was a "nope".

I think they are. Berg just earned 10 internet coolness points.

I think Newty still has the title :)

He does still lead the points count last I checked.

I tried not to break my own arm patting myself on the back with those custom cupholders but I am still happy with how they turned out and have held up to repeat abuse. Plus I did all 8 for under $20.

Basically same kind of stuff but 3M brand.

Little black PlastiDip in the bottoms of the cups, then a wrap.

Way nicer than plain or painted plastic and way cheaper than SS.

Ah, so it's just a wrap. I thought you got all fancy and put real CF weave and resin on them!

Oh well, I'll still give you 5 pimp points.

I don't know if the Death Star pilot is the guy who gets to hand out the points.

I can still criticize him.

Although I Berg might 'force choke' me in return.

Berg,
did you have to heat/bake them at all?

bergermaister

Just cleaned them up with thinner.

Cut the film to size and stuck it down to the inner lining.

Heated the upper edge just very briefly to get it to stretch over the lip and tuck under just a little. You can see an in-progress wrap on that one pic with the laptop in the background.

End result- on a few you can see a bit of the seam on the upper edge just a little. On others it's basically invisible. And when they're back in the boat go unnoticed.

I wrapped the center of my steering wheel and mirror as well. Curves on the mirror were too complex and it didn't turn out all that great. Steering wheel did though.

Then after all that was done, I of course wasted several hours wandering around with beer in hand looking for other things I could wrap to give the carbon fiber look... Same side effect of adding more blue LEDs.

OH yah I would concur. The title is relinquished and starts all over again!

So that would mean the runner up moves up?

If zabooda ever takes the lead it will never be relinquished.

what about two piston arms, one at the starboard side and one right before the seat starts to bend?

I don't think I'm too worried about the cylinder, as it wouldn't take much to hold up the seat back. The hinge thing is what would determine if it will work or not. Have to wait until I get the boat out for the summer I guess.

let me know. i feel like someone might fall back into mine and rip it off..i feel like some of the people i let on my boat dont really care. i always find old soggy chips and beer cans hidden in spots..

A single, small hinge with a couple of gas struts, or even a single might work. But I'll bet would be super wobbly and prone to failure. Most of the flip-up style I've seen are a flat seat back with a beefy piano hinge that ain't gonna budge.
