Hey, Viking - Please provide a full recap on modifications you made to your Outback. I continue to be real satisfied with my 2007, but open to making modifications especially if they are do-it yourself and/or within my budget. Everything except the driver stereo remote and LED cup holders is factory original. I have time and space to work on modifications this spring. Thanks! - Stuart

Rear Seat Sac (fly high) and another 400lb surf sac for along side the doghouse. I plumbed in all the lines and put a valve for each back in the rear storage locker so I could fill either independantly or together off the same pump and switch on the dash.

It's thicker along the base and allows for securing with short screws. Same on top around the inside of the rub rail where the top deck meets the bottom hull.

Nice boat! I just purchased a 2007 Outback. I'm interested in this mod to winterize and to fresh water flush and/or when I change my oil. Can you help with some instructions. I mostly need help figuring out where to tie in.

Moomba2007. There are a few threads showing the home made adapter that fits the water pump. It allows the antifreeze to be circulated. Shouldn't cost more than a few dollars to make.
Regarding oil changes. Right next to the distributor there is a large paper clip looking holder. It is holding a flexible tube that connects to the bottom of the oil pan. Run it thru the floor drain, put a bucket or other device to catch the oil.

Moomba2007
09-15-2015, 05:38 PM
Awesome, found the oil drain line. I also want a way to run water thru the engine to warm it up Before I drain it. I'll search out the post on the adapter. Thanks!
Also, your rear seat ballast is a fly sac? Did it plumb straight up to your stock lines?

Jordy Dag
09-15-2015, 06:07 PM
I purchased vikings aftermarket fly high fat sac for under the rear seat of my outback dd. I had to extend my factory hoses and add 90 degree ballast fittings from wakemakers but other than that it was plug and play to replace my gravity 1 bag.

All I use to run my engine in the driveway is a home made fake a lake. I bought a plunger and drilled a hole to install a 3/4inch female garden hose fitting. A little 3m 5200 around the fitting and youre away.

viking
09-15-2015, 11:29 PM
Moomba 2007,
Basically you can build an adapter with $5 worth of parts from Lowes or Home Depot and it works better imo than the plunger type that you hook up under the boat on the intake scupper. Here's a quick snapshot of my homemade fake-a-lake.
23040
Here I had it hooked up to my sea strainer with the intake hose removed because is was very accessible. But it can also go right on the inlet on the impeller housing as well if you don't have a strainer? On the other end all you need is a garden hose adapter.

I also built a catch bin and re-circulation system using the same type hose so that I could flush anti-freeze when winterizing and that is pictured earlier in this thread. If you do this I would recommend installing a valve on your dripless shaft line so that you can close it and not lose a ton of antifreeze in the process.

When plumbing my rear seat sack I added additional lines, a T-fitting, and 2 manual valves so I could direct the filling of the rear sac or an additional side sac along the doghouse. I did use the stock fill/drain lines. The rear sac emptied with stock line and pump but the side sac I would empty with a Tsunami portable.

Oh and if you don't have an extractor you may want to get one. Less messy imo than running the drain line out the bottom.
23041
Hope that helps?

Yeah man, lots of help! Cant wait to get my boat out of storage this weekend and get all this set up. I really need to change my oil!
I will be looking into the ballast bag upgrade. I've been ready to surf since before I got the boat and was a little disappointed when I found out the boat wouldn't make a wave big enough. Still love the boat though! Glad I found the forum too. Thanks again for the help Viking!

Moomba2007

I guess I can't see where you are tying into the engine unless you disconnected the inlet hose from the bottom of the boat.? I guess I will just tie into the impeller housing unless I hear otherwise from you guys. I am waiting for my oil and filter to be delivered and then I will post pictures of my set up. Then I will inspect the impeller as I ordered one of those too.

2007, thats right. Viking was referring to hooking up your garden hose fitting to the suction side of the impeller housing. Viking was essentially doing the same thing but because he had a sea strainer installed he was hooking up to the sea strainer housing (which feeds the suction side of the impeller housing). If you ever need help just drop a line. I have the same boat

Successful first oil change. Learned a few things too. 1. It takes a while to drain the oil without an pump 2.Removing the oil filter is a messy job. 3. When you clean up put in the cooler plug so the oil and degreaser doesn't run in the cooler. Next I will have to learn how to change the transmission fluid.2310523106

It takes a while to drain the oil without an pump 2.Removing the oil filter is a messy job. 3. When you clean up put in the cooler plug so the oil and degreaser doesn't run in the cooler.

Make sure and run the engine to get it up to temp before draining oil. That should help. Use the same extractor for the tranny fluid as you do the engine oil. Pull the dipstick plug and suck all the fluid out. Replace. It's that easy. For the engine filter use a large zip lock bag to cover up filter as you remove. It'll catch most if not all the oil spill and no mess in the bilge area.
