I didn't get any invites from people that don't have their boats winterized.

(and I was up on Mt Hood for the holiday)

You drop the top Mike?

My dad is at the Barrett Jackson auction today. (They're snowbirds so it's local)

He's been itching for a '64 for years but doesn't want to drop that much $$ so I'm trying to talk him into a C5 or newer.

I have been watching the Barrett on tv this week. I like the Mecom better, you get more variety in quality of cars.
Barrett seems to be the real high end cars and such.

On the Top, No I didn't drop it lol. I thought about it because the car is much quieter inside with the top down. Less wind noise, I know sounds weird but the Vette was actually designed as a convertible so its relatively quite.

I am glad I got the heater fixed over the summer, made it nice and warm. I had a plug in the heater core. Had to reverse flush it to get it working.

Bad thing is I found cracks in the side walls of the rear tires. Guess this year she gets new tires, the Boat Trailer gets new brakes.
Summer of 13 was boat trailer got tires.
Last summer was tires on Claudia's car
Next year the truck will need tires as they are 50% worn already.

At this rate I buy a new set of tires for something every year..

Haven't been skiing much with all the terrible weather down here of late. Have been busy though. Adding a new 3 car garage with single carport covered parking stall.
Existing garage will then be converted to the new man cave! :) :)
Should be pouring concrete Wednesday next week.

haha. 5 adults and my 9 y/o son couldn't quite finish them. They were layered with cheese! and we kicked out for the pulled pork and Guacamole. and you can't see the extra onions, sour cream, and jalapenos on the side!

The best part was when my son was reading the menu and it talked about how a pitcher of "Kokanee" (beer) would compliment the nachos. My son said, "Look, you can get a pitcher of Cocaine with the nachos!"

ROFL! see what happens when you mispronounce Canadian beer????

Went out on the water yesterday. Forecast said "sunny and 61". I knew the water temps were going to be in the 40's but I have all the right gear, so no worries.

Well, we got to the launch and it was seriously socked in. Fog like I've never seen.

However, my friend with the boat is a pilot and he checked the stats at the airport (just about 3 miles upstream) and it had 1/2 mile of visibility. So we thought, oh---we'll just start cruising that way and I'm sure we'll find clear vis really soon.

Well, we were navigating via the GPS and google maps on our phones. There were times where our visibility was maybe 100 feet. It was downright scary. Especially when we saw a tugboat pushing a double barge materialize out of nowhere (the fog).

At one point it was so bad that we saw a familiar piling (where there's an underwater pipe below the river) and we dropped anchor within sight of the piling because we knew that a barge wouldn't be motoring that close to the piling.

This was pretty typical of the drive over...
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-7ZSQtf4wm-w/VMWcu8rE32I/AAAAAAAAXaQ/9mSOtEkuh70/s800/GOPR0012.JPG

Eventually we made it over by the airport and it was in fact decent visibility. Air temp did rise to 61 and water temp was 46. Two of the guys got in wakeboard sets.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-vUxO3AhM9vA/VMWctKyI7fI/AAAAAAAAXaQ/HUpeXKw7G4g/s800/G0040117.JPG

For surfing, we had plenty of boards to play with...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--GJkbqXbuOs/VMWc0mtXl1I/AAAAAAAAXaQ/F2wYI6wpAMU/s800/GOPR0142.JPG

The wave was decent on a VLX with lots of ballast and a ghetto gate. I was fully decked out in drysuit, booties, gloves, and even rocked the neoprene cap (which was nice on those times when I took a dive and got a face full of cold water).

Finally, I took a video on the way back. We figured that after we rode by the airport where it was more clear, that the fog back to the launch would burn off. NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't have any specific pics (although he does pan the video to the gate briefly at 9 seconds into my surf video above).

It's just like the tons of other ghettos gates made on various wake boats. 1/2" HDPE assembled so it can slide over the swim platform and secured with a turnbuckle or ratchet strap to the tiedown eye on the boat.

This isn't his, but They look like this:
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n17/deep808beet/IMG_20140628_062256_zpsaf022c59.jpg

Basically an inexpensive addon that mimics the Malibu surfgate. Typically at 22 degrees since that's what Malibu does.

Like any and all of the surf systems out there, it facilitates delayed convergence of the wakes so that the surf side is smoother and longer and you can do more even weight distribution of ballast. Nothing really new.

Yeah, once we got to our "spot" over by the Portland airport, we didn't see another boat (and yes we had visibility THERE). That part was a lot better for us because it ranges from 15 to 25 feet deep and it's on the other side of an island from the main channel, so there was a guarantee of no barge traffic through there.

We saw 3 boats on the water all day. 1 was a big cruiser. 1 was another idiot wakeboat that we saw than then they cranked their music and throttled up and away. The last was a tug pushing two huge barges. Yikes, that was scary even though they were going maybe 5mph tops.

If we wouldn't have had our phones with GPS and google maps, there's NO WAY we could have made it there and back.

Nice pics. Reminds me of a time in my early 20's back when I knew it all and 3 of us were in a 12ft skiff going duck hunting on the river at about daybreak in that kind of fog. After 2 hours zig zagging back and forth on the water we never found the slough or the blind. The highlight came when we couldn't figure out which direction we had even come from to head back and in the midst of the head scratching we heard the "HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK HONK HONK" of a tug and barge that sounded like it was about on top of us.

I have a ghetto gate now. I have a few pics to share. There are more in a separate thread.http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/01/26/5733009b251522173773c6ce8bff13d6.jpg

Yeah, imagine our surprise when we peered through the fog to see a 200' long x 35' wide barge stacked 2 stories tall with garbage and then another barge behind it filled with mountains of wood chips; both being pushed by a tug.

Who can see the 2nd barge behind the first, that's how foggy it was! they were literally butted up against each other with the tug behind both of them. Where's the 2nd barge? where's the tug? Where the hell are we??????

From the PNW Dexter lake, water temp ended up being 48 and air temp reached 55.

Only guy in a wet-suit, everyone else was in a dry suit.

Thanks Jester for the Jan surf set, first time ever being in the water in Jan.

Badfoot, I plan on attending the Richmond and Virginia Beach boat shows. Any chance of runing into you at one or both shows? - Deerfield

Stuart,
I'm planning to attend the Richmond show for sure. Not sure which day at this point, but would enjoy meeting up. Let me know the date and time you're thinking and I'll schedule around that.

I've never surfed chocolate milk before either but would be willing to give it a go.

This begs the question.
Do you prefer chocolate milk or neon green slime water?http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/01/c5b3d456d364991e5273b18283e83607.jpg

On days like that we prefer to call it Caramel Macchiato......
