View Full Version : End of one of my knock sensors worn down a bit???

So, I winterized and I have a knock sensor on each side of the block. the Port side looked odd on the end of it, like it got ground down or something.

The starboard one looked more like I would have expected. Has a flat end on it. Pic of them side by side:

As far as I know, the boat's never seen salt (and the condition of the engine supports that theory, it's pretty damn clean for 6xx hours).

So is this normal? Will it affect anything?

I'd gently clean it if you choose to do anything. Of course, be gentle with the threads. As long as the metal is solid enough to transmit the vibration to the sensor and not leak water when installed it will work without any problem.

Use a tap to clean out the threads in the block and a die the clean the threads of the sensor.
