I've been looking for a used Red Rocket to deal with my larger size (6'2" 230lbs) but just stumbled on the Tako which seems to be a bit more cost friendly..........anybody had any experience with that board? Or should I pass and just keep looking for the Red Rocket?

IS Blue lake would work also. As well as the Ronix Duke. Both are extremely stable and easy to ride.

the Tako is a very nice board. It's a bit more of a beginner board IMO, but has a nice fin setup where you can use 1-3 fins to change the ride characteristics. If the price difference is significant, I'd go with the Tako.

I've ridden both the Red Rocket and Tako a lot. The RR is very big, very buoyant, and true surf style. The Tako is more of a hybrid and can be more surf style with 2 fins or closer to skim with 1. Still very buoyant but less than the RR, and also not as bulky.

I went ahead and got the Tako but now I've found a used Blue Lake. Shane mentioned it in his post, but anyone have any details to compare and contrast the two? Would the Blue Lake be considered an upgrade from the Tako? Would the Blue Lake be a better long term option as my skills get better?

Blue lake is an upgrade and yes you will be able to progress on it. It's a surf style where the Taco I believe is a hybrid. Blue lake will be much faster.
