What's a good board for my son to get started on? He's 10 yr old weighs about 70lb and is 54" tall. Rides goofy if that matters at all.

For him getting started is there much difference between the surf style and skim style? Sorry if this is really obvious but I just don't know.

That depends on how fast he wants/will progress. Both boards will easily let him surf without a rope once he gets it down. There are some tricks that folks have an easier time doing on a surf than a skim, but the great riders are now blurring that line. A general statement is that surf is more geared to big air tricks and skim to more surface tricks & spins.

try the liquid force fish. I have a 14 yr old alittle bigger and he learned on that, it comes I believe in 4 sizes. And I bought one that was one he could grow into and that I could use as well. Works great!

I'd advise against the LF Fish unless you want a boat board or some wall art in the near future as your son will quickly outgrow it.

With him just getting started is there any advantage for him using a board with more than one fin vs multiple fins?

Depends on your Wave, the better the wave the easier it is. I have a Ronix one skim from 2013, it's a great skim board. We usually start new riders on the cwb to get up, then switch to the Ronix. Fun fast, but forgiving...

I let some punk 12 year old ride my cove skim board, the little bastard was doing 360s in 10 minutes.. I hate being old.. Lol..

Id look at this one..
