View Full Version : Z5 / Cargo Bimini - Show me the straps

Thinking about ditching my surf racks if possible and letting 2 surf boards ride on my bimini. It's a shorter bimini and beefy enough that it should have plenty of support for 2 boards - nothing heavy.

My cover guy would be more than happy to modify it for me if I can tell him what I want.

So what do the straps on the top of a Z5 or Monster look like? Anyone able to share theirs?

Bungee? Velcro? Cinch straps?

I've done some googling but not seeing too much detail.

Bungee cords up front and adjustable straps on the rear.

Look at some of the pics in this thread for ideas. This is one of my mods for next season I think. Too many boards now.

Pockets might be the easier answer?

Only pics I have of the top right now ........

Dang, you have the whole garage up there.

Pockets may be easier. Or pockets + one strap each.

That's the beauty of the Z5! Only thing he's missing is a tube on top held down with the spider x web.

I'm trying to work with an upholstery outfit to offer "pocket service" where you send in your bimini and they add the pockets. We'll see what happens.

Test fit. I think it will work pretty well with a front pocket and rear strap. Not sure about the rocker of the surf style nose - if that will cause problems dimpling down or not... Then I can get rid of the longhorn racks.

make the pocket so the nose can poke through. a pocket basically with a "hole" in the front where the tip extends.

Also, I'd be one that would rather have a true cambuckle strap rather than the plastic stuff shown on the first page of the Tige thread.

Of course, before you spend too much, I guess consider that a monster cargo bimini is $650. I would hesitate dumping a ton on modifying your stuff when you can get something ready to go... of course, your design might be better than the monster. and you like to tinker and modify...

I think it's a great idea. I just hate the thought of having the bimini up all the time. :-/

Nothing is "ready to go" for this boat I've found... Pretty sure my cover guy will hook me up, treat me right. I just need to find the time to get up there.

Good idea on the open pockets though.

We are sunshine deprived. I need to stock up to get me through the off-season that's 3 times as long as the season.
