I recently bought a 2000 Kamberra and want to change the oil for the first time. I looked in the Indmar Owner's Manual which has suggested Penzoil Marine 15W40, the problem is I can't find it anywhere. Do you guys order it online? Suggestions?

Also - they leave the option of using synthetic up to the owner....what do you use?

thanks in advance!

At last check (january 06), Wal-Mart had pennzoil marine 15w-40 for 1.74 a qt. I bought a case (of Budweiser), then went a got me 5 quarts of oil. BTW, the Fram oil filter number is PH-30 for those interested.

Ah you gotta love WalMart. Tube tops with chili mac stains and elastic pants...and that was just the guy working the Hunting and Fishing counter. What would we do without it.

Walmarts the only place Ive ever found it.

Just remember that there is a difference between 15w40 Marine oil and 15w40 Diesel engine oil. Make sure you know what you are getting. It is my understanding that you do not want to run the Diesel oil in the Marine engine.

The local Moomba dealer recommeded Delo 15W40 available at NAPA

DeloŽ 400 Multigrade Heavy Duty Motor Oil 15W-40 Performance

First oil to allow the diesel engines of the three leading U.S. manufacturers to run for over 1,000,000 miles without an overhaul.
It exceeds the tougher performance standards for the new API CH-4 service classification of modern, electronically controlled, low-emission engines.
It exceeds the performance requirements of the Mack EO-M Plus, Cummins CES 20076 and Volvo VDS-2 specifications.
Its exclusive ISODEWAXING technology rivals synthetics in critical engine tests.
It offers an optimal blend of dispersants, detergents, oxidation inhibitors, antiwear, corrosion inhibitors, viscosity improvers and defoaming additives

I use the standard Fram PH-30 (same as earlier post) in my 05 LSV 350 EFI.

Will, That is what I used in my old outback and was just curious if there was something better.

Is anyone using synthetic? I was thinking about using Mobil 1.

Good question. My local marina keeps telling me to use syn oil because of the wear and tear waterspots have on the engine. I think it's because they hae a higher profit margin. Would love to hear from a profesional.

Is it true that once you go to synthetic you cant go back to conventional oil? Im very interested in any feedback anybody has on this subject, not only for my boat engine but the engine in the truck that tows the boat. I remember the days of spending $50 on a quart of Slick 50 and I think it was only synthetic oil.

Didn't Slick 50 have a lot of teflon in it?

We discussed the oil question here a while back and determined from Indmar that Penzoil 15W40 Longlife was perfectly acceptable for those of us who cannot find the version marked Marine.

In my vehicles (not yet in me boat), it was perfectly acceptable to even mix syn and reg oil together. A A M O F, when I'd do an oil change, I'd often put 3 qts reg and 2 qts full syn so I would get the benefit of syn w/o the full cost of all syn. I bought a '99 Ranger new and put 100k miles which included pulling me old run-a-bout up and down the hwy. After 100,000 miles, I put a set of valve cover gaskets on and was amazed how clean the insides of the covers were and how little wear appeared on the valve train.
.
IMHO, you can switch between syn and reg readily with no adverse affects. The labels on the bottles even say 'compatible'. The only precaution I would give is do not mix brands......i.e........If you use Castrol reg, mix with Castrol syn.
.
Hope this helps
