I was thinking the same thing this morning walking into work. I have pics at home I need to upload but on my 13 hour work day, plus hour drive each way, that's 15 hours, then add in breakfast, and your talking a 16 hour day, not much gets done on work days.

We're out on a windy day today sans kids. Jill can't surf or board with her broken foot, but she can read, sun & enjoy the new Exile setup.

David I was thinking the very same thing. Woody that still sounds like a great day. I look forward to a day sans kids where the wife and I can just go out ourselves and chill but we're a ways from that with two little ones and no family in the area to babysit.

Hoping to get out tomorrow, we'll see if the weather holds. Calling for 50% chance of rain but that could mean nothing.

Exactly, that's precisely why I wore the heater jacket and gloves. Mike wants to be sure that EVERYONE knows that it's freezing and miserable up here in the PNW. Deathly windchill, freezing water temps, and blown out white capped chop with hyperagressive lake sherrifs on Hagg Lake. Absolutely horrible. No one should EVER come to Hagg Lake. Mike is crazy for even using it...

(Mike, do you think it's working?)

Ohh but you can, and you warm up doing this.

Unlike Texas where the water is 96 degrees and you piss to cool off.

So riding behind the mojo ... Trayson.. whats your surf review on mikes mojo.. I know you didnt get the best take on the "dare to compare"

Honeslty, I think it measures up with any of the big boys on the regular side. It was NOT smooth out on Hagg by any stretch, but I had no trouble riding the BIG regular wave. It was huge. Easily waist high. Obvioulsy lots of push. Really no complaints. I'm still not a fan of the walkthrough bow, but with the filler cushion and the blunt nose of the Mojo it at least competes with the pickle forks. His stereo system? Well, I think they were talking about Mike's stereo at the end of this video clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTH81WJ1hIA

As far as flow, I think it's something that will most certainly enhance the wake. I don't think it's a replacement for ballast. Not a chance. But when you're spending money on getting that good surf wave, it's yet another ingredient you can add into the mix...

So, yes, I Mojo can most certainly hold its own with a lot of the big boys. In some ways, it's superior. FREEBOARD FOR DAYS. Holy crap that boat has freeboard. I think we had to toss my wife a parachute when she went from the sundeck to the swim platform. You can drive it sacked out and the boat doesn't "feel" as listed as it really is. It also isn't nearly as bow high surfing as many of the boats I've been in.

I didn't like how low the tower was. I smacked my head on his XM9's at least half a dozen times. (that's not a bad problem to have though! ha!). However, my tower has a pair of 8" compression horn tower speakers and I've never come close to hitting my head... (maybe that's placement, but I know that my speakers sit way higher on my tower vs his.). I still don't like the design of the bimini on the mojo's and how if you tow from the center of the tower that the rope would rub on the bimini. Mike's workaround on this is to surf tow from the side corner of the tower instead of the top. It gets his rides into the pocket easier and doesn't mess with the bimini. However, it did have a few problems with the rope getting tangled on the boards that were on the racks, so nothing's "perfect" I guess.

I guess that goes to show that a boat's setup has a lot to do with how it'll perform.

Is that just a liquid force fish? If so, it's certainly solid and stable. I've rode a 5'6 fish and 5'0 fish. It's not really fast, but it's certainly boyant and makes surfing pretty easy.

I sold my 5'6 fish to get a Ronix Koal Illuminati, which I like better. it seems faster and more agile. I touch less stability but still a good all round board.

However, I tried a Doomswell squash tail Drone and instantly fell in love. It took my surfing to another level. It's expensive, but it's the first board I've found that I really loved.

I did try a 4'8 Byerly Buzz and I actually liked it better than my Koal Illuminati when I rode it behind a stock + bowsack weighted Mojo.

So, some food for thought.

Thanks for the info. I still am terrible at surfing. Having trouble finding that pocket. Still working on optimizing the wave but I think I have that worked out. Will know this weekend.

I might buy the Liquid Force fish for my wife. She is still very new to surfing and from what I understand it's a good starter board.

I am going to look into everything else you mentioned and should buy something soon.

Still being new-ish to surfing. The ronix I have now it 4'10"....... are longer boards more for beginners? Also I am 5'9" 212 pounds.... So what should I be looking for?

Thanks Trayson

I think that the LF Fish (no bigger than 5'0 unless you're people are well over 200 - 225lbs) is fine for a "boat board". The ronix Koal fish would probably do just as well, but would satisfy a person more into their intermediate phase. My Koal is pretty damn fragile. But I've heard the new ones are more robust. The LF fish is pretty tough. Though most of the surf boards require a thicker board rack. I got the Krypt double surf rack for $120 shipped off ebay.

the pure surf boards like Soulcraft and Doomswell are another level of performance, and of course of cost. I was blown away with the Doomswell I rode. The Soulcraft I rode was fine, but honestly I could have been just as fine on my Koal Illuminati. Go figure. I'm looking to sell a kidney to afford the $675 Doomswell. And then I'll need yet another board rack for the even thicker Doomswell.

Check out the videos on www.wake9.com as there are a few tips there that could help... If you were local, I'd be happy to join ya for a day and I'm sure we could get not only your wave dialed but your form/technique refined enough that you'd be in it to win it.

Looks beautiful Mike; will have to venture out to Hagg some day. I hope our little local lake will cooperate like that in the afternoons. Seems like it has been really windy around here in the afternoons in town and on the river - more than usual.

When you pull up and see something like this you may as well not even bother launching. That was our Tuesday night.

I have seen WAYYY too many of that exact sight. If I see the sailboats out, I get grumpy. Although I've been having really good luck in my "special spot". I've come from having great wake/surf water to rejoining up the main channel and seeing the sailboats as I get back to the launch... So, I'll continue to go the extra 15 minutes to get my good, deep water.

Well, I had a fantastic time with my visit. Special thanks last Sunday for Trayson and Cindy for driving out to see Mike. I got ride along and then have a few long overdue pops with Mike on the water. Thanks to Mike and Claudia for hosting all of us on the Mojo and sharing their boards with us. I didn't think it was cold at all after getting in the 60 degree Columbia River the day before to surf with Newty. I wish I was a better picture taker. So glad you guys were able to get a few. The Mojo wake was a lot of fun to ride but into the wind was kind of tough, at least for me. All in all a great day then went out to see Widmer Bros. and Berg met me there for a final Portland micro even though it was getting kind of late on a Sunday. Thanks again to everybody that went out of their way to make me feel welcome and at home. I hope to get back your way again in about 5 years. Come visit sunny FL in the meantime.

Went boating on Saturday did not get any pictures. My 3 year old daughter is scared to get back out on her u shaped ski (she rode it behind the boat a two or three time last year). So Sunday we had yard practices start pulling her around by hand and that got tiring fast so we used the 4-wheeler. She was a little gun shy at first but after a couple minutes she loved it. I think I drug her around the yard for over two hours. We are going on vacation to bull shoals lake starting Wednesday and be back on Sunday she says she ready to try it on the water again.

If she can do it on grass like that, she should have no problems at all behind the boat. Excellent!!!

I"ve had some people ask how do I get up holding a kid? Here's some shots my son took with his iPod. Ashton is 2 and a half . This was his first time getting up like this. I did this with a bunch of my kids, all the way to my 8 year old daughter (hand/arm strength req'd)

20175 Lay on your back with your feet on the board, as you usually would. An older kid like Gabe should lay on their back just like you, with their feet on the board, and their arms wrapped around your legs. (An infant is different, you just have to hold them and hold on really tight, requires a good bit of upper body strength and hand strength).

20176 When the boat starts pulling, flip the board up like you usually would.

20177 Notice how I"m still squatting. You need to coach them on standing up, but you need to squat some so they can adjust their weight and foot positioning, depending on their height.

20178 Once you're up and going, they can just hold on. I'm giving a little coaching in this shot. Surfing is difficult when they dont' hold still well. lol.

20179 He got tired of getting splashed in the face, so I picked him up. that is a bit more of a feat. lol. I may have been still holding the rope when I did that though.

One of my bearings is getting really hot to the touch, it's packed with grease, any ideas why?

It's tightened to tight would be my guess. When the tire is on there should be a little play when you grab and shake it. That or you have a brake caliper dragging

I'm planning on bringing my GoPro Hero3 BE to the Texas Jam next wknd!

Some old duffer was busy overloading a 200lb canoe with 300lbs of shi- to go out at the launch - taking up one of the only 2 lanes of course (kayaks clogging the other side). Seemed to be in no hurry whatsoever as we waited for him to clear so we could load. After maybe 5 minutes I had had enough so started backing the truck down at him like I would go through or over him if necessary - got maybe 5ft away before he even noticed me - then shuffled off to the side scowling under his breath. I'm sure he didn't notice the 3 other boats that had pulled up and were waiting to get in either. Tis the season!

Berg, that looks like an amazing place to boat! The scenery is beautiful and the lake looks really clean. Is that water cold?

Trayson, are you retired? You always seem to be going out during the weekdays. Either that or you work odd hours!! I saw your thread in the Supra forum for your NSS system, that is pretty awesome you got it to work and it worked out pretty well.

Nah, he's just odd!

Lake is fairly clean but gets hit with blue-green algae about once a year and shuts down. There can be a lot of lake lice on any given day and bozos doing power turns every time a rider goes down. Temp- no idea; my portable thermometer was reassigned to hot tub duty over winter.

Doesn't everyone go out on weekdays? it's 15 minutes from my house to the two nearest boat lauches on a couple of our rivers. I have a season parking pass for the one I always use. Pretty much I'm always off work by 4:30pm so going out on a weekday is pretty easy businesss.

Yes, I'm odd.

I forgot that your boat doesn't have a temp gauge... I obsess about water temp! so glad my perfect pass tells me temp! hahaha.

I heard that weeks ago when the Columbia was 57, that Lacamas was already 70+

C&S, as far the scenery, that's what we call "looking outside". Seeing scenery like that is basically everywhere we look in the Pacific NW.

Trayson but you're always posting at 1:30 in the morning LOL! Guess you don't need a lot of sleep. I am 10 mins from my ramp an I don't get out on the weekdays but I have two young kids (one almost 3 and the other 2 mos) so it's a huge feat just to get out on the weekends hahaha!

The PNW is certainly beautiful but it comes with the nasty weather I can do without.

That pic KG was practically every evening this week here in SC around 4-6pm. It's been in the mid to high 90's all week and storms have come almost every day. Hope you made it out safe or it did t turn into anything.

Actually, I don't think I live that far from you. My closest lake is Lewisville, but I don't think I'll put in there this year. The ramp we like to use is missing water (Pilot Knoll).

Got out on Old Hickory Lake here in Nashville this weekend, only got a few pictures. My oldest son got on the wakeboard with me, he was pretty excited and now wants to try his (happy dad haha). Once it got busy we just hung out in a couple different coves and listened to music, good times.

So, last year we tried to get my son (7) up on skis. I figured he'd be a natural as he can snow ski double black diamonds, terrain park and half pipe. Well, He didn't get up and controlling the skis while floating in the water was a nightmare. Even with an adult floating in the water with him it didn't happen. So, every time we get on the boat since then, my son tells me that he doesn't want to try skiing.

So, a buddy was selling his kids wakeboard and I figured I might as well get it to have on the boat. So, I started by having my son who is now 8 strap it on in the family room and working with him on how to get up.

Then today we went over to our friends pool and I brought the gear and we got him comfortable floating in the water with the board on. We showed him how to flip when on his stomach. And I ran through drills pulling him with the rope so he can at least get the feel of what it's going to be like when he tries it behind the boat...

We went Ride The Bull at Bull Shoals AR Competed in our first surf tournament. I was super relaxed and family oriented. I got a 3rd and beginner men and my wife got 3rd in beginner women. Not a lot of riders but that made it fun.
We got pulled buy a Axis 22 with the wake gates (been wanting to ride behind one of these boats). I did not like the wake at all I defiantly liked my supra better. The Pics of us surfing up close is behind my supra.

Have you calibrated your speedo? 11.2 mph is faster than we surf and we run a bit more weight than you. Normally, running faster will lengthen the wave and knock it down, so your comment about slowing down & losing push is counter what happens for most.
