I was thinking of buffing my boat tomorrow. My brother-in-low is bring his old low speed buffer.
I have some 3M Cleaner and Wax.
But I have about 4 scratches about 1/4 inch wide by 3 to 4 inches long on the side and back of my boat.
Do you guys think the cleaner and wax will buff the scratches out or will I need something else.

I never used on and he has only used it to buff cars.
Any pointers would be great. (I been reading older post but did not see a lot on small scratches)

thanks

Jonthan

Are they scratches or cracks in the gel coat? Most of the time I have been able to wax out scratches by hand, I also use 3M products. More elbow Grease in my opinion than that of the buffer.

The buffer will polish the scratch so it is as shiny as the gel coat around it but you will still see it at certain angles. To remove it you will probably have to wet sand the area around it and then buff it out.

I use a random orbital sander (buffer) with different cutting pads to remove scratches, oxidation, and waster spots from my boat all the time. 3M is a good product. You can read up a lot on this or other sites.

2nd what Scott said. Here is the buffer that I use.

I've Had it the last 2 years and have done the whole boat in the spring. I use 3M and Performance Boat Candy. You can get the foam pads on amazon pretty cheap.
