So I'm looking at new boats & I'm almost certain it will be either the R20 or Mondo. I like the color options on the R20 better but I like the interior colors better on the Mondo. My family wakeboards & wakeskates BUT I really want to get into surfing. We boat in Lake Havasu so I'm a little concerned with having a 20' boat...but that's what our budget is for. We want a brand new boat between 55-62k. FULL 3 color combo including a painted tower. I plan on doing a monster stereo so I will get a bone stock system from factory.

I want to hear some thoughts/concerns/advice that anyone has. Especially people that are in a R20 or have ridden in/behind either boat.

Thanks!!!!

We bought a mojo back in September and the final two were the mojo and r20. We really felt the size difference was just too much to pass up on. We were coming from a 185 Searay and the size between that and the r20 just wasn't that big of a difference to warrant 50k. We decided on the mojo as it actually wound up being cheaper and the size was just a huge factor for us.
I agree the r20 colored out is a really good looking boat and the interior I even think is slightly more stylish. Had we have not been able to get the mojo with the surf engine we most likely would have gone with the r20 but once we found the mojo with surf engine and right price we just couldn't pass on it.
I know you were talking about the mondo but I promise you that if you can hold off until September you can get a brand new mojo easily within your budget.
As for the r20 when we demoed it the sales rep was able to go rope less without very much weight. I couldn't as we didn't have enough weight and right board. I also liked the drive by wire system on the r20 but other than that the dashes and amenities seemed very comparable.

I have yet to test drive any yet but we are looking to order in December or January to be ready for next season (wife is pregnant now).

I want to build a boat, which will cost me to spend more money. I just don't want a boat that a dealer thought looked cool but really it just looks ok so that's why it's been on their lot for awhile & has a deep discount. I'm very picky on boat colors & if I'm spending so much already I rather have one that I picked out (& my wife approves haha).

I haven't priced out the Mojo yet, how much more is it than the Mondo?

WELL! Let me start off by saying welcome to the forums. I had been on this forum for a few years with out even posting cause of all the information at hand. Let me give you a run down on why "I" chose a Moomba Mondo over a Tige R20.
1.First off, one of the biggest factors in your decision should be the DEALER. Dealer support is important in a inboard boat more say than a I/O or outboard. Not every shade tree mechanic can work on these things. Although if you plan on doing things your self you will find tons of "HOW TO" topics on this forum. Even the most experienced of guys on here still use the dealer from time to time. If you have a dealer that sells both and you like the dealer than this is not a issue. If they are different you should visit them both and see if either one sets them self apart from the rest.
2.Second Budget. I priced both of these boats out at MSRP. So i'm only going to be using these as a reference. There is no "bro" deal pricing here. So not to get confused here is what I came up with. The Mondo Option for Option was cheaper by a few grand compared to the R20. The R20 option for option to the Mondo I wanted almost got into RZR territory. Budget wise the Mondo was a better fit . The extra money I saved could easy have paid for some high end audio equipment as well as ballast upgrades and more.
3.Your Lake.I have never ridden at Lake Havasu but from your post I take it has rough water at times. NO inboard is going to ride like a cruiser. Let me state that first. Those hulls are designed to cut water. But, to compare the R20 to the Mondo there are a few things to take into consideration. First Tige is known in the industry for having a V hull that carries further back to the transom. This will help with those bumps and swells that occur during windy or busy days. The Mondo gets a flat bottom almost at the back of the boat. This is to make "I believe" a more predictable wake with different weights(someone can correct if i'm wrong). But, to throw alittle towards the moomba side, the Mondo free board( depth of the sides) seems FAR deeper than that of a R20. This is a difference maker because with a choppy lake comes big rollers. With a family the deeper sides is going to make you feel safer and more secure have little ones on the boat. Less rollers in the boat the better. So this is a opinion on which is better for that lake .
4. Finally THE WAKE! This is where the subject gets really touchy when your talking about how the wake performs. I can give you a few facts but it really comes down to what you like. The Mondo is a bigger boat and uses it to its advantage. Wider beam Deeper hull and about 800 pounds heavier. Now I will not give a " bro my wake beats your wake all day" speech but I will say the Mondo seems to be a little more curved to the surf style boat. With that being said they both have surf systems and they are very different. If you are wanting to get into surfing I think either one of these boats would be great to progress on. As far as the wakeboard wake . If you ain't ridin pros around they will both more than adequately handle experienced riders of all ages. I can slow my Mondo down to learning speeds and still keep a clean wake. But again this is all preference. TEST RIDE BOTH!!!!Then take anything in this part into consideration.
5. Last but definitely not least FAMILY. If this is going to be a family boat there are also a few things to consider. If you want a "bro" boat that throws the "WAKE of the Century" on a budget then you probably need to look at a Axis. But if you are more family oriented then interior design, seating, storage, and safety is key in these rolls. I have to agree with you that a Tige exterior options and colors are ahead of any of the Mondo's configurations but, then I also agree that the Mondo's Interior looks more luxurious than the other budget boat brands. when it comes to family I think is where Moomba shines. Deeper storage, Deeper seating, which equals into a safer ride for the family. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that a Tige is not a safe boat. I am only stating that for my family my wife felt safer sitting down into a boat instead of on top of the boat.
In conclusion they are both great boats and both are made by quality manufactures that stand behind their product. Both have Pro's and Con's that could sway you either way but in the end it is all a opinion and a decision that only you can make. In the 20 foot category it was a no brainier for me because I didn't feel like I was in a 20 ft. boat the Mondo feels bigger than it actually is. It rode higher in the water than other in size classes bigger than 20ft. I wanted a boat I could do all the water sports I wanted to try and it fit the bill.
Hope this helps with any questions or concerns you might have:)

mondo all day over the r20. biggest reason is the added freeboard of the mondo and the 99" beam vs 94 on the r20. that will make a huge difference. I know a lot of guys are getting good surfwaves off the r20/rzr but you will with the mondo as well and that extra width and freeboard will be welcome on havasu.
I'm sure you already know that neither boat is going to perform well when the wind turns havasu into 2ft chop tho.. there are times to stay off that body of water with anything sub25ft.
still somewhat unproven, I'd stake a beer on resale 5 years from now being 10-15% higher on the mondo.

I will say tho that if you can get over the "buying brand new" thing, shop a year old leftover or a low-hour year old boat and get into a mojo. the added length will be a much better ride on that lake and with a newbie, might be a worthwhile investment..

+1 on the Mojo if you can find a deal. Tons of room and weight capacity. I can only speak for my experience but it handles in rough water far better than my previous 18.5' I/O.

How much more is the Mojo? Are we talking like 5-10k?

Depends. You should be able to find a Mojo in the 60's... it all depends on options and the dealer.

I'm not sure where you're at but two major dealers are Lauderdale Lakes Marina (The Boat House) and Atlanta Marine. There are still some 2013 Mojo's and LSV's that can probably be snagged up for a good deal.

I got my boat by working with my local dealer who got the boat from Lauderdale Lakes.

he's boating in havasu which puts him fairly close to phoenix and closer to vegas. both have solid skiers dealers. I know that the guys in phoenix have had several leftovers earlier this year from skiers. I don't see much holdover from vegas but lots of 1-3year old machines. they are both pretty active on craigslist advertising holdovers. from a warranty standpoint, I would think you'll find something leftover late this fall that a dealer doesn't want to hold over until next year. might not be the ideal color but a good price can take some of that decision making away :)

just be careful running up the river :) uncle has a lowpro jet and talks about some of the "hidden" obstacles in the river..
he's in willow valley. their ideal day is running up to the casino for lunch and drifting all the way back with beers in hand.
