Loaded the ballast in my 03 mobius lsv last weekend and when I was moving and going to turn the steering made a Loud kind of clicking noise in wheel.....not quite grinding but loud. I just replaced the steering cable and pulled rack to check gear.....looks fine. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue ever....
Btw....ballast is only like 280 each side in back and 400 up front

Do you have any play in the wheel ? The bushing behind the gear that drives the cable could be worn out ( hopping gears)
Just a thought ,I've replaced my steering shaft because it was worn .

Is the wheel slipping at all in a turn? May be kind of hard to tell.

I ask because I almost swapped the wrong steering cable into mine years ago. Did a test fit at the helm and the rack barely contacted the pinion gear on the shaft. It would move it back and forth, but probably slip under pressure.

I called the company and got a part number...then he gave me an updated #.... No slack..pretty tight. But that's what it feels like. If it's it a bind it feels like the gear slipping

Only had it happen couple times on hard turns playing....and when I loaded ballast and tried turning it did it. Gonna run full ballast tomorrow and run it for a bit.....I'll let ya know results
