On my list of winter projects was to give the boat an upper augmentation (Exile) and a tramp stamp (FAE). After 2 Saturdays, 1 Sunday, about 5 Amazon orders, countless trips to Lowes, and a case of beer (by my best guess), the audio portion is now 90% complete. Still outstanding are the sub enclosure, the ZLD install, amp tuning, and rotating my speaker grills. ZLD should be easy; sub work will be a little more involved, but all in all not bad. I thought I would post pictures of my install journey.

Here I'm measuring the gap of the supports so I know how much room I have on the back of my amp rack:

Once I have my measurements, I sketch out my amp rack layout:

Back of the board with wiring. Yes it will suck if I ever blow a fuse, but it's all out of the way:

Amp rack installed running off of 2 GC Batteries. I had to flip the order of the ACR and the switch to better fit the existing wire runs:

Tower wires run. There are wires going up both sides of the tower. The port side is only feeding the lower speaker. On the starboard side, the main 4 conductor feed line comes up and out of the pre-existing grommet. At that point a line is run to each of the remaining 3 speakers (1 port, 2 starboard). Everything on the starboard side terminates using the larger pre-existing hole.

And here is the final completed view from the rear:

Maybe next weekend I'll get to tackle the FAE. It’s been sitting by the front door for about 3 weeks.

Overall it sounds great, although I wasn't going to put the system through its paces at 7pm on a Sunday night in front of my house :-)

Screw the dang neighbors. What'd they ever do for you?

The neighbors were only part of it. The other part was my wife telling me I'd spent enough time working on the boat for the weekend and we needed to get the kids to bed. Although I don't think she said it that nice.

If I'm working on the boat in the driveway and the volume knob goes over 20% Heidi is telling me to turn it down lol

Claudia just comes out to dance in the garage or opens the door to the house. to hear our better. She knows there is no point to telling me to turn it down.

It's taken a while, but I finally got the sub (Xi 12D) and ZLD installed.

I used uniwarking's box design, and it works great. My facade is different since I don't have the hump, but I was able to adapt. I used 3/4" birch for the box and facade. I coated each with 3-4 coats of spray on bed liner.

The box is glued and screwed, then all of the seams are caulked.

Here it was when I was positioning it to get it under the helm. The base ends up 7" off of the floor to clear the cluster of stuff coming out of the floor. I had to move the main power wires and attach them close to where the air vent was attached to the wall. I also ended up letting the air vent hang loose. By the time it wraps around the box it doesn't have much slack left in it.

I used legs to help hold the rear of the box up when I was screwing it to the facade, but I then ended up removing them because it wasn't needed, and trying to get each leg cut to the proper length was a pain.

Here it is after I had the box screwed to the facade. I was able to reach my arm and head in the box to caulk around that seam also.

I later went back and cut the carpet around the hole to keep an air tight seal. I also put weather stripping around the sub.

Looks real nice, but the subwoofer grill is on sideways.

Guess it is. I was matching the pattern to the one on the speaker. Maybe I'll change it
