All,

I thought I'd share my plans and progress for my audio system upgrade.

Equipment:
1 Pair SXT9's
800.4 Amplifier (tower)
Javelin Amplifier
Xi12D Subwoofer
ZLD MKII
Pro Install Kits - Tspec
Stock Kicker Cabins (for now)

Here is my progress on the custom box, this will allow me to maintain my stock "footrest" and doesn't interfere with any of the other stock equipment. This is a sealed 1.2 cu ft enclosure.

Space behind fascia, had to relocate the electrical stuff (2 screws and a little re-routing):

Thanks for the comments. Added some carpet and binding posts to the box. Got the amp rack out, I'll start getting it all wired when the next shipment arrives :)

Brian, thanks for all of the help!

Looks fantastic great job! Did you draw that enclosure yourself in CAD or have someone do it for you? Very handy!

I'd like to know more about how you mounted that back storage shelf, looks like the metal threaded rods you find in HD or Lowes? Specifically how you mounted it to the ceiling, like what hardware and all. Feel free to PM me because I don't want to hijack this awesome build thread:

The pic on the right in post#4. Tapatalk isnt letting me sign in and I am on my ipad or else I would copy+paste the image.

Thanks. Yeah, used CAD a lot in school and in some of my past jobs. First time with SketchUp but it's pretty simple.

Rockford Fosgate has an awesome volume calculator, just google "Rockford Fosgate woofer box wizard."

As for the storage, that is a product called unistrut, you can find at most hardware stores (usually in electrical). It's used a lot in manufacturing facilities. I have a 4' deep shelf spanning my whole garage above the garage doors and then that 2' deep one at the back of the garage. Much cleaner than shelf brackets or chains. It utilizes threaded rod and channel along with some special hardware.

Thanks I'll have to check that out. I want to make something like that for storage as well and I like that idea, didn't want to build braces myself for it. The only thing that has stopped me thus far from putting storage shelving above the garage door is the fact the door needs to be closed whenever I need something. I have two storage things mounted to the ceiling now above my garage and it's a pain every time I want something. But I have enough space on the back wall to do a nice 8-10ft section.

Keep us updated on this build. I couldn't ever build a box but I like seeing it done!

Wow...really really great..... You didn't use the factory carpet panel?? Not thick enough I guess? And I guess also you used the factory panel to get the dimensions?
And I will definitely use your post for my Mondo......thanks!!!

Yeah, it wasn't quite tall enough for the sub diameter... And I wanted to use all 3/4 MDF for the whole enclosure.

I found a seller on eBay selling the carpet by the ft in 18" widths for trailer bunks. $17

looks great, the panel looks super wide, maybe its the mojo , is the sub centered under the helm.

Hoping to get it in the boat today, I'll post some pics. It's pretty close to center under the steering wheel.... with all of the stuff under there this was best place... probably would have to do differently if I had a heater. The panel is the same size (just a little taller) as the stock panel... still though it's going to be fun fitting it all in there with the box on it.

Well, yesterday was a productive day. I got the sub box in, the towers hung, the amp rack installed, wired up, new winch on and cleaned it inside and out :)

Some of the wiring is temporary, it will look cleaner once I get the ZLD. The sub is in the mail... Can't wait to get it in!

I will warn anyone wanting to use this design... it's tough to get the sub in... I had to remove the footrest screws and push it back an inch or so. Once I got it in I could put it back in position and now it looks like it came from the factory that way :)

1979419795

The winch looks like it belongs as well, that stock one was way undersized IMO.

Nice work , I didn't realize it was going on top of the panel hence the width ?

Looks great

Can you tell me where the footrest screws are located?? I don't have my new Mondo yet....so I can't go and check.. Thanks

Two under the cup holder, just pull the metal cups out. And then two right in front of the captains seat (you'll see those as soon as you pull up he carpet.

Got the sub in on Friday and had a chance to do a rough tune... system sounds great! I trimmed back the carpet a bit around the opening and installed some weather stripping on the sub flange to seal things up good.

Hopefully we can get out on the water and put the system to the real test soon! :)

Thanks again Brian @ Exile!

Do you have any pics of how you mounted your ZLD?

jmvotto

Mount it to the steering wheel bolts. Sturdy and easy to get to with both hands.
