I bought my new to me 2008 LSV in December. The guy I bought it from didn't have the rear trailer tie downs. The boat is in storage, and I want to take tie downs with me when I go to get it. What length do I need to get? Anyone have suggestions on brand/model I should be looking at?

Also, someone recently mentioned something about also ratcheting down the platform. Any recommendations on the best way to do that?

Thanks!!

I'd suggest using a rope or temporary tie down. Then when you get it home go for the trailer mounted ratcheting tie downs. Much nicer and you'll never lose them.

Like these guys - http://www.etrailer.com/Cargo-Tie-Downs/BoatBuckle/IMF08893.html?feed=npn&gclid=CP_lntCh5b0CFQqEfgod7n4A6A

3ft long should be plenty for the ride home.

Not sure about the platform. Not a huge concern for me.

If your worried about the platform take it off and put it on the bed of your truck.

I bought cheapo ones twice before the boat buckle ones. Save yourself the grief and get them now as well as the one for the bow eye. They are fantastic! That is a great price from e-trailer too.

Here's a comparison for you:

As for the platform, I tow 45 min. every time we go out. I take a regular cheapo ratchet strap and loop it through one side of the platform bracket and tie it down to the trailer. The tension keeps the platform from bouncing up and down and rounding out the keeper holes. It's a good idea if you are towing more than 5 min. or so.

I second the ratcheting transom straps. Bolt them on and you never have to worry about losing them. I just leave the platform as is when I tow, never had a problem but who knows, maybe it will bite me in the rear later on.

Yes, get the Boat Buckle ratchets. They seem expensive compared to a basic nylon strap but it's one of those simple things that will make you happy every time you use it.
