Whelp, wasted my other knee first trip skiing this year. Pretty bummed as I was starting to feel like I was progressing at Wakeboarding finally. Been laying in bed the past few days after surgery and its really starting to sink in.

Both knees are crap now and I'm looking for any good knee brace companies. Currently looking at custom CTi braces now, anyone have any experience with any other brands? I had an EVS and destroyed it. I'm very active with boarding, motocross, skiing, hunting, surfing, etc so the brace has got to be well rounded (water and dirt) for anything really. Let me know.

sorry to hear about the knee problems, unfortunately I am all to familiar. I have a Townsend and a DONJOY

Townsend was provided after my second surgery and the DONJOY after my third.

I like the Townsend for the water as it's not as bulky and fancy. I use the DONJOY at work mostly and anything that doesn't get me to dirty, wet, or sweaty. trying to keep the DONJOY serviceable for as long as I can. Both were paid for by insurance as they were work related injuries, wouldn't want to be on the hook for either of these out of my own bank account, if I remember right the DONJOY was in the 2K range

Yikes - that's too bad. Was planning to razz you to attend the PNW jam but...

My cousin is a Phys Ther and has recommended both the Donjoy and Townsend before as well.

I had a donjoy used it for two and a half years after my surgery. I used it for wakeboarding snowboarding and riding quads and dirt bikes and exercising.

If you get on you use in the water ask for the sleeve that goes over it. I about lost my donjoy boarding and a friend lost his CTi barefooting behind my boat.

the only bad part on my donjoy was the straps were connected with a metal piece and it rusted over time.
The nice part I order new padding every year. and it was about $50 but it was worth it after riding in the river all summer. I still have mine but do not use it any more it was hard to quite using it but It is nice not dragging it everywhere I went.

thank

I have the CTI with the aws straps, seems like most pros wear the CTI custom, get the neoprene sleeve to prevent any slipping. I cut up an old wet suit.. I looked into getting a custom, however the cost was $$$$, when I called CTI the rep said there's not much difference between the ots and custom, unless you have really big/small calves..

The best thing I've found for rehab is the indo board for rehab. That thing kills my vmo muscle. Hopefully I won't fall of it and break my neck..

Great info guys, I'll look into those braces as well. Going to try and have the insurance pay for two braces. I don't have many parts left to cannibalize for my knees. I'm pretty sure they'll fund one, not so sure about the other, I might just have to bite the bullet on that one. These injuries have ridiculous recovery times. Oh well, nothing I can do now other than try to prevent it from happening again. Thanks again for the info.

Make sure you rehab both knee, probably why you tore the second one.

Physical therapy is my number 1 priority. Here's a couple shots of it today

My guess would be my MCL and PLC reconstruction as well as harvesting my hamstring which was used for my MCL.

Oh I split my meniscus in half too, that could also be why I have the two incisions on either side of me knee. Forgot about that repair.

ACL, MCL, PLC, and meniscus reconstruction and I'm back at it (limited of course) at 5 months post op. Hard to surf the glass, but its great physical and mental therapy! Might have a summer after all. Wakeboarding will have to till next year.

Ugh.. Where's your brace?

Still pretty large around the knee cap and sides for a final brace measurement. I had a case of tendonitis from my petellar where they harvested for my ACL that I'm still battling.

I wear my brace even surfing, I twisted it last year attempting 360s. The board stayed put while the knee twisted.

Keep up with the rehab, this year I got a private trainer, someone that knows what they're doing. My knee and legs are super strong. Should've done that during the rehab..

Glad to see you back on the water. Take it easy for a while-- come back strong.

I would wait till next year to wakeboard. I worked hard on my rehab and at 7 months the doctor said I was stronger than when I tore it up and did not need a brace and I could start wakeboarding. I sprung my knee the first wake to wake jump I did. I showed the doctor a video of me riding when I blew my knee out and than he finial decided I need a knee brace.
It was a sick feeling when I sprung it I though I tore it up again and I was thinking I was going to go through hell again.

right on man congrats on getting back out. I feel your pain the end of may last year i tore my right bicep and had to have reconsturcitve surgery to fix the lower tendon that tore. I spent the summer in a brace that was locked in place and i could not even get in the water. I am finally re habed a year later and got back on the the wakeboard. Still makes me a little nervous that i might do it again.
