OK, here's the place to post up all of your clever ideas for the wife, the kids, your grandma, etc. If you are planning on giving or getting something really neat, clever, imaginative, cool, whatever, please share your ideas. I am horrible at buying wife gifts so I'm looking for some help here (I'm thinking she needs a new bigscreen TV though.) Tis the season!

My wife wanted a dustbuster lol...I at least got her a nice one with a lithium ion battery. Well, and we're also closing on our new house on Jan 6th, and it's for her because I didn't want to move!

+1 on that!!! I would have to think about it REAL hard even if she said that's what she wanted......like maybe it was some kind of sick test to see if I would still buy it!!

Let's see... I've got a couple mods planned for the tow rig (which is her Honda Ridgeline). So she'll get those for Christmas. Also got her a couple things from the Columbia Sportswear Emplyee Store...

Going go to be a sad Xmas for the wife and I being that we closed on a new house in October and moved 600+ miles. Our daughter will get all the good stuff but it's about her now anyways. Sorry Kane, can't contribute anything good. I too am bad at getting gifts for the wife, but I can sure as he'll make a damn fine list for myself!

One year I did 2 sets of pajamas. 1 for when it's cold and 1 for when it's "hot". Worked pretty well.

Heated mattress pad. Just did this actually (Dec 2). She absolutely loves it and serves the purpose of making sure the "hot" jammies get worn more often. ;)

What's wrong with that...sounds brilliant to me. Here's my trick...For the last few Christmases, after all the visitors have gone back home, I magically "find" another gift under the tree. Its always some new lingerie, so she always says its a present for me, but its now just a running joke. We have been married 20 years with 2 teenagers, so anything to keep it fun is great!

I'm just excited to be home with my wife on Christmas this year. It will be our first Christmas as husband and wife so it's cool to make it. Now if I can get off on her birthday that would be a treat! I've never spent my wife's birthday with her, even before she was my wife, I've had to work everytime.

Ya, the kids are much more tech savy than I, but I think we have been pretty careful not to leave evidence around. They don't even know about this forum so I think our surprise is safe.

I have twin boys who are 13 now and have been constantly borrowing laptops from mom, sis, me, etc. They are each getting new ones (they have a tablet already and there is a community IPAD they use). I wish I had a good idea for phones for them. I already have 4 on my plan. Maybe I'll start a "work for your phone" plan and do prepays or something.

But dad "EVERYBODY has a smartphone at school" according to my 12 yr old

What's the limit on your family plan? You might consider branching off, let the kids do the shared multi-line plan, do an individual plan of your own. They're the ones who will burn up all the data and msgs. You may be able to downgrade your own features and save a few bucks. Then you get the newest phone and pass your old one down!

You just need to remind them of what Dave Ramsey says. Right now you need to live like nobody else so later on you can live like nobody else. Haha

You just need to remind them : you need to live like nobody else so later on you can live like nobody else.

I have friends who can attest that we live like this and with 6 kids get to enjoy an amazing life. I admit I did give in on the phone thing when the oldest daughter (and 2nd one a few yrs later) started twirling/cheering and would need to be in contact for rides, etc. My wife's business takes care of a chunk of the bill (self employed expense, partially) but we have 4 on the plan and a max of 5. With 2 boys 13 and soon to start HS, I am struggling to find a fair and balanced way to do it. I fully understand how teens waste their time on their phones but also understand how a kid can miss out if he's not "connected" to what is going on. Unfortunately, I don't have a good plan to strike the balance between "cool" and fiscally responsible. I am going to ask the two daughters who have benefited for the last 4 and 6 years respectively for some insight. You never know what you might find out.

If you have verizion look at there small business plan it allows up to 10 lines and do the shared data. One way to control data is set the phones to update over wifi only. This used to be an issue, but now almost anyplace the kids are has free wifi.
