Cool pic of my wife surfing. Don't tell her I'm posting any of these! Unfortunately I don't have many pics, it's usually just one of us driving for the other and managing the kids at the same time, so it's hard to throw a camera in the mix AND my gopro went in the lake the first day I got it thanks to a buddy lol.

So I finally got some video of me surfing tonight. Literally, I don't think I've ever had video taken lol. This is running my usual setup; 1100 surf side locker, 400 ski locker, driver only in the boat (he was staying on his side most of the time), 11mph, wake plate all the way up.

This was taken on my phone pretty late in the evening as you'll see, but that gave us a cool reddish sky towards the end. I tried my best to splice runs together with my phone's video editor, but it's the first time I've done any of that lol.

Try it sometime. It's definitely different. Kind of like trying to throw with your opposite arm. You'll look/feel like a tard the first few tries. Then it gets better.

Nope standard start I guess I don't even think about it. When I was younger we did it wakeboarding once, once being the key word because it is really difficult to swim with something floating on your feet. Lesson learned lol.

I ride no jacket while surfing relatively often. Even if I wear my jacket it's not USCG anyway, might as well be a shirt in the eyes of the law. I'm surprised to hear there are life jacket laws regulating it anywhere. You are basically swimming when you surf, as you are not being pulled by the boat lol (except the start). Regardless, in Michigan, there are no life jacket regulations for a person in tow except in tow behind a PWC for some odd reason.

That being said, I've never not worn one except surfing. Wakeboarding without would be a really bad idea.

maybe it's the age thing, but I don't for the life of me understand surfing without a lifejacket. I know I've had a couple close calls falling with the board. all it takes is once for it to pop you in the head. I don't know the laws in WI(yet), but in ID, behind a boat? no jacket? instant ticket and long lecture from the po-po while they look for more tickets. I know I don't want my liability insurance paying off a drowning. I don't understand the comp vest thing either. if you're going to wear it, make it float ya. I have heard "true lifevests are too constrictive" from the same guys that all they can do is go wake to wake, but I guess at least it's something...

My comp vest actually floats me pretty well, never have felt unsafe with it. I wouldn't suggest surfing with no vest (nor riding with a comp vest), but I won't lie there are times I do and a couple have been because I forgot my vest in my dock box lol. I never wore a vest any times I've surfed the ocean as probably none of you have if you've surfed...that's much more dangerous in my opinion.

But back to girls and wakes!

Load it down with a lot of ballast, wherever you can fit it. When surfing, bias the surf side with the most weight.

In my old Launch DD, I would put all my sacs stacked on top of eachother on the left side of the boat. When wakeboarding, I'd just even them out.

Can you describe your technique for standing and riding backwards? I'm always trying to learn new stuff.

Remember, it was on my big blue SUP...never tried it on my regular board lol. It was like 20 minutes in ever surfing that board (it was just after we shot that video). When the boat takes off, you're of course already just floating on the SUP because it's so big and buoyant. I stand facing forward with feet shoulder width and pointing at the nose of the board, and hold the rope off to the side in my right hand. Once the wave develops I pull myself forward in front of it, and then I toss the rope and switch my stance to a normal riding stance.

So when I went to go backwards, I just went from my normal riding stance and kind of put my feet at an angle at first by moving my right foot back and my left foot forward. I turned my head and shoulders around to face backward at that point to try and get a feel for my balance while facing backwards. Then I just took my right foot and swung it back in line with my left, and was facing backward, feet side by side not one in front of the other (opposite of how I start). It was touchy because everything was flip flopped. When I went to turn back around, I actually kind of just jumped back around really fast.

I was more just doing silly things, and suprisingly they were working! Next I'll try a headstand or somthing...but the problem is I can't even do one on the ground I don't think, so it should turn out pretty funny to watch.

You have a great weight combo but looking at that pic the boat is very flat looking, its not rolled over to the port enough. This is causing all that white wash on the top of the wave. If you can get that weight in the center more on the port then the wave will really clean up and be bigger, then your 13 yr will be in absolute heaven.

Lol....didn't realize it's a competition, but if so then....

Amateur at best berger! A beer must be slammed while surfing, not sipped like your wife's wine cooler!

I might at least have pics somewhere...but it must be shotgunning a few buds or natty lights in a row! And need I remind, but it only counts if it's tossed from the boat and then you hand the can back to.somebody on the boat in a nonchalant manner! Then do it again...and again...and then at least one more time after that!

Bump for updated surf pics.

Waves look any better since 2013?

This one is around 3800 I think (before our lead came in) but we have one more person in the boat so it should be about the same

The one and only day I got with the New SA last season... Enzo's in the rear, 3 in the boat. Unfortunately I didn't catch the bags were installed backwards until we started filling. So I'd guess we were 4-500# short in the back with the bags twisted.
