As you guys know, I am planning on ordering a new Mondo this winter. I have been doing some thinking, and here is my question.

Should I save a couple thousand dollars and order a new LSV?

The facts for the LSV:
Same boat weight.
Same number of passengers.
1 foot longer.
More Ballast.
2 inches narrower.
Old hull.

Still plan to ski, wakeboard, and surf.

Any thoughts from you guys with Mojo's, since they are similar to the Mondo, and newer LSV's would be great.

I can't speak for the Mondo surf compared to the LSV.

Having owned an LSV and a Mojo its a stiff argument on which i would really by if i had the option again.

LSV pro, solid wake boat, great surf wave, excellent body lines, and i love the V front end.

Down side, not as wide, in the cabin, smaller in the bow, not as much storage.

Mojo plus, solid steep wake board wave, solid surf wave on Reg, decent on goofy but both require tons of weight literally.
Boat is HUGE, in all categories.
Only real downside is i think its a lot harder to trailer then the LSV was.

Ok with your original posting of Mondo,

If your really comparing the 2, i would go LSV everyday, its got a better nose, Mondo nose really is tiny, it looks big because its wide but its short. LSV has a great surf wave without a lot of work. Can be down with almost all factory set up with only a bag change for the rear.

LSV i think will be a solid value holder for resale also with its reputation.

Like i said though im not trying to discount the Mondo, i just haven't spent any time in it and i have spent a lot of time in the LSV lol

With boats always buy the larger model if you can afford it and have storage for it, the 21.5 market is huge for the resale.

No, because the Mondo alone is at the top of my price range.

Fair enough! I haven't been behind the Mondo, so I can't refer to it. Just based on my experience with an LSV, I can't imagine not choosing the bigger LSV if it's less expensive comparably equipped. However, the Mondo is the cool new boat, but is it better than the LSV? I'd definitely have to ride behind a Mondo before I bought one above a new LSV.

Have you had a chance to ride behind the Mondo, or will you get to? Have you ridden behind a LSV?

I'm with mike. always buy the biggest boat you can fit if you plan on surfing.

there is some truth to the size and resale as well. my launch20 was a tough sell at 20'8, but it was also an older model that was disco'ed the summer I sold it. Mondo will be around for a while.

I really like the look of the Mondo and think it will be a home run for SC. That said, and until I get to see one in person and demo, it would be really hard for me to pick a smaller, more expensive boat with a yet-to-be-proven wake over the LSV that has been a home run for 8 years and counting.

I believe the Mondo is cheaper, correct?

Price wise .... OBV, Mondo, LSV, Mojo ?

Yes, you are correct. I was looking at 2013 LSV pricing. The price has gone up for 2014.

Joe, check those stats again.

The Lsv is wider, heavier , bigger gas tank and 3 more passengers

Well I drove a Mondo last week, and I drove an LSV today. All I can say is that the LSV IS A GREAT BOAT. The ski wake was just slightly larger than my OBV wake, so that was good. I didn't try wakeboarding since I knew it would be great anyways. And the surf wave was good with just the stock ballast.

Cockpit layouts between the LSV and Mondo were almost identical. I need to measure the Mondo to see the differences, if any, since I believe the one foot difference is all in the bow. I measured the LSV, and the only disappointment was that the LSV cockpit seating is only about 3" longer than my OBV. So as with the Mondo, the LSV extra length is mostly in the bow compared to the OBV.

As I said earlier, the ski wake was pretty good. We skied at 32mph and wakeplate full down. There was myself, two other adults, and one kid in the boat.

We surfed Goofy at 10.8 mph and wakeplate full up. We had one adult and kid up in the bow, and myself and another adult on the starboard side. We also had the center tank and rear starboard ballast full. Pretty good wave with only 1150 pounds (500 center, 650 rear) of ballast and a few adults. Just as others have stated, an IBS and some more rear ballast should make a great wave.

I know that the Mondo is going to be a great wakeboard and surf boat, but I just don't like the ski wake. Hopefully I can get another Mondo ride in to double check, but as of now, I think that the LSV is the better way to go for my family and I.

Don't have much comparison of the Mondo vs. LSV, but some for the Mondo vs. OBV:

I was surprised at the boat show about how much bigger the Mondo appeared inside than the Outback V, which are basically the same length boat. White Lake Marine had them parked side by side and the Mondo cockpit looked to be about a foot longer than the OBV. Some of it may be from the bow area, but the sunpad looked about 8-12" smaller on the Mondo, so it appears that the engine packaging has been made more efficient (maybe due to the additional depth) so most of the increase in cockpit area came from that.

Thoughts on the Mondo vs. LSV:
One thought is that you mentioned the slalom wake has some importance. Aside from hull design, boat weight seems to be the next biggest factor in slalom wake. So I checked the boat weights, and was confused. The Mondo and the LSV lists at 3800# if you pic on the link to the boat specs. If you go to the compare boat page, the Mondo lists at 3000#. Not certain which one is right, but I assume the 3800# is correct, so in that case there is no advantage.

Not much help, am I!

Well, it's boat show time, and that means it's time to order the new boat. I decided to go with the LSV. My wife and I went over the colors tonight, and this is what we came up with.

I found these pics on the internet of what the interior will be. The only difference is that the deck color will be platinum, not charcoal as shown.

Loooking good! I like the grey/charcoal seating and wish I would have gone with that in place of the primary white colors I picked.

Can someone please explain why the Mondo which is shorter/lighter than then the LSV is priced higher with identical options?

The Mondo should be about $1,500 - $2,000 less with same options, unless supply can't keep up with demand. My dealer has told be the Mondo has been a hit.

Congrats on the New LSV, you will love how the water dances on the orange hull, it'll look like live flames.

Hey there, as a cost saver, if you go with the flow, the 345 surf engine is no longer really needed, and you could simply go with the cheaper 330 engine and reduce your costs??? I was at a boat show this past weekend and that's what the Moomba rep was suggesting... Congrats on the new boat!!!

the 345 was never "needed" but is sure is wanted by us surfers.

What the heck is wrong with your dealer? You need to take them surfing and do it their way (stock ballast, stock motor) then your way/my way (slammed with 3K+ ballast, 345 motor and an upgraded prop.

The only good thing about cold weather is snowmobiling and boat modifications. So I summerized the sleds and started the mods. First thing was to remove the rear walls and move the pumps.

There is a piece of starboard at the rear of the engine compartment. It is the perfect size for the pumps and the module. I drilled a couple of 4" holes and mounted the pumps to the face as shown. The module is mounted directly behind them on the back side. By mounting everything as shown, I didn't have to extend any wiring or hoses. I actually had to shorten the hoses. If you look closely at the pic, you can see that I added a couple of brackets on the bottom of the starboard. Not sure if they were needed, but better safe than sorry, since the starboard is only held on by three screw on top. I have ran the boat a few times, and the new setup has worked great. Even though the hoses are near the exhaust, they do not get hot.
