For someone who knows very little about boats what is the difference between the two...pro's and con's.

I just bought a 00' Outback LS I show nothing in the specs indicating Direct or V drive....how do you tell? seems I recall someone saying something about the compartment being in the middle of the boat is the quick indicator?

Cheers

V-Drive engines are located in the rear of the boat. (name comes from the way of the drive train.) Direct Drive is a traditional ski boat with the engine located in the middle area of the boat, much like your outback is. A V-Drive would be like the Moomba LSV or XLV. Take a look at the pictures on here to see the difference.

more wakeboarders prefer the V-Drive because there is more weight towards the rear of the boat. While the DDrive offers a better ski wake due to further forward engine placement, but putting weight in a DDrive will offer a great wakeboarding wake as well.

Hope this helped clear things up.
