A few that were out the TX Jam know but on my way to Trinity only about 50 miles i look back in mirror and noticed Port side glass shattered. I have been in or around boats my whole life and it has never happened to us, i have heard about it happening but rarely. Wife and I spent 3 hours and $12 at the local car wash vacuuming glass out of everywhere and i mean everywhere. It actually scratched the gel coat around the windshield area pretty bad.

I got a quote from dealer today to replace just one side and it is over $1600. Anybody know of any other options to get glass for a boat?

we met you at the turn in to bethy creek (blue/black Moomba) and was checking in at the same time.
I wanted to ask but I could tell you were still pretty hot. we felt so bad for you. I cant imagine the pit of the stomach feeling that must have induced. glad you guys still made the most of the weekend.
you guys definatly took the hardship award.
I hope you guys can get it all fixed and for a fair price.
good luck!

Your deductible will be eaten up at any price so go with the one that can get it done soon and get it done right.

Tempered glass is very expensive when it is curved.

I would bet money that there are other boat models with that exact piece of glass.

Maybe the manufacturer (pcw??) could tell you what boats use the same one and you can find one used?

I would consider an insurance claim.

If it happened while on the trailer the entire rig should be covered under your auto insurance. That is the story that Progressive, Geico, and USAA have told me from day one, though I've never had to put in a claim for a trailered object. Best of luck, let us know how it turns out!

It depends on the scenario. It would if the tow vehicle was the cause of the damage such as a car accident while trailering. If it is caused by anything else then the boat insurance would be in effect. Perhaps a rock from the tow vehicle tires could have broke the window. I would look at which has the lower deductible and conjure up a story accordingly. Interestingly, if you have an accident while towing and the rig and trailer become detached then the damage would fall under the boat insurance.

When I was towing my boat and slid on ice into a tree it was the boat insurance that covered me, not car.

I bet state insurance laws determine that one...

You're the glass man
Oh man.. bad deal. Yes, if it is "bent" it is really pricey. I am not at all suprised by that price if it were a glass shop. I can't help but think SC gets them WAY cheaper than that. Maybe Drew could make a call??? Your only other option is to cut a piece of acrylic just to fill the hole short of happening across one from an individual.

It happened to my boat I just had my boat insurance cover it. It was like $1500. My part was $200 or $300. Rinkers did my work and I was very pleased.

Definitely do a claim on your boat insurance. Likely a lower deductable and shouldn't raise your rates. We pulled in right behind you at be thy as well, felt so bad. My buddy said he was finding glass for 3 years after his broke.
I'd call pcmw (?) And see if they'll ship you the glass. I've done a couple windshields and they are not too bad. May be way cheaper.

You know... tempered glass is super strong on the face... but the edges can be barely bumped and it will shatter. I am sitting here wondering if the edge was sitting on a screw from original factory install. No way to know though. But I feel that must be the case if this is happening in transit. One good bump.

Insurance Claim started with boat insurance. $300 deductible but Rinker told me it will take 6 weeks.

Until then it will look like you have a really clean windshield one one side.

Or that you are winking ;)

Another reason to tint the windshield to keep glass from going everywhere is something happens.

A couple of years ago, my passenger side window was falling out on the second day of a week long trip, so we just removed the whole window. Looked kinda white trash meets bass boat.

Funny thing is, that photo is with the old bimini top and old speakers. I don't have any updated photos, WTF!

I think one of the high cost issues is sc only gets them in complete sets.
Have rinkers find out of the whole set is any more than one side.

My lsv broke driving down road. Took forever to locate glass.
Finally sc found a half sitting out in their lot. It was dirty but new.

Ordered from dealer will be here in 6 weeks, part is $900 the rest of the 1600 is labor and misc. i may just take the part and save the $600 for a new surf board.

I think you could handle the install. Especially if the glass is already framed.
