View Full Version : The "Official" Old Guys 360 Attempt Thread

OK, there's a couple of us, shall we say, "experienced" fellas who have a 360 contest brewing (love that word) for the good part of a couple of seasons now. We all have some decent attempts but none of us -- to my knowledge -- have actually ridden out of our 360 attempts. So here now is the official thread of the bet. Post your attempts here so the whole community can laugh together. AARP membership not required.

Here's a start:

If you’ve ever played pinball.
If you learned to type on a typewriter.
If you remember when phones used to ring and a lot of houses only had one unless there was one in the bedroom.
If you had to make a decision on VHS or Betamax.
If you had records (or even cassettes) for music.
If you remember when all mail required stamps.
If you know whose number this is: 867-5309.
If you read 1984 and it was a book about the future.

I found a cool new app called I-SWIVEL that if you load it into your phone, then bluetooth it into your Wakeboard-Pro, it will calibrate your speed control and slow it down if necessary while you are videotaping the 360 attempts.

Awesome Pat!! What board are you using, and what size are you - not trying to get personal, just trying to compare to myself :o) I'm using the big ronix cortez board and just can't surf without rope. My wife is killing me with rubbing it in! I must admit if skills were reversed I'd be doing the same... ;)

We also have a Ronix Koal (4'6"), but that seems way too small for me...

I have actually had better luck spinning on my Inland Surfer Squirt with the stock two shorty fins than I have been with the TripleX skim with its single small fin. Maybe I'm just not used to the board yet.

It's not the spinning so much as the standing up tall at the end of the rotation instead of staying tucked - for me anyway.

wolfeman131

Well.. 3 more attempts on Saturday and definitely closer than ever. All three ended with me watching the boat pull away as I sank straight down into the water. At least my balance is improving. Now got to keep the wave from passing me by. Biggest problem with the rotation up to now was trying to spin to fast. Slowing the spin down made it way easier to control. No pics or video as my phone always seems the be the one playing the music.

Sunday conditions were great - just wasn't my day. I think I was too busy staring at the camera on the front of the board hoping it wouldn't fall off rather than paying attention to what I was doing.

Board mounts seemed like a good idea but I think the best videos will still be from the boat.

Your balance is off, probably too much weight on the back foot. Keep playing around by moving your feet and toes until you find the Center of balance on the board

Probably tossed 20 attempts last weekend. I am fairly adept at getting the thing done, just not at riding it out. I always loose too much momentum and slowly, or quickly, fall out the back. One time I pumped once and thought I had it so I just went to my, "lean forward" move and nope, I didn't have it. Frustrating, I've got to be doing something wrong but I'll get it. I should take all the go pro footage from the weekend and condense it all down to my FAILS, would likely be pretty funny.

I was thinking I was starting my spin too far up the wave and maybe that's why I was losing it out the back when I did actually make it all the way around. This was only 3 in the boat. Earlier in the day with 11 in the boat + ballast and I had a lot more wave to work with but it was more of a demo for a couple who had never seen wakesurfing.

I took a wakeboard/wakesurf lesson Tuesday and I thought for sure I'd be posting my 360 video. However I just kept over spinning or face planting. This young kid(13? 90lbs?) who was taking a lesson with me, decided he wanted to try "one of those spin things". Ten attempts later he does 1 spin and then followed it up by doing 3 in a row...ARGH!!!...

I tried my best to "accidentally" miss him with the rope and hit him with it few times but it didn't deter.

At least now I've seen it in real life....

You are probably at the right speed, maybe even go a little faster since you are running an 1100. When I have a lot of people on the boat, my son will ask me to speed up a little to 10.5 - 11.0 to clean up the wake a bit.

I think your doing the turn in the flats ahead of the wave, you need to turn and go up the wave then down.

I haven't had much luck lately either, mainly because I keep switching between boards and I've been surfing goofy. When I took the lesson and saw it they came down the face of the wave, then before the bottom turned and rode back up the wave and around and down the wave again..

Only half or so. Vid clip prior to this one I was telling them to toss me one. Begging, pleading, pointing, coaching. I swear I rode back there for 10 minutes waiting for them to figure out how to get the lid off that BL alumacan and toss it back.

Pretty sure it was right after that we came down to the bridge and found you guys.

Make sure it's 85 and sunny every day in June, OK? Water temps need to be in the low 80's too.

Ok, I have to admit, I have been lurking on this post. I did not want to post until I could do it. I went into this season with two goals, to get air off the wake and to pull off a 360. What I think is the last day of the year for me, I pulled the 360 off. I am so stoked! To my Moomba bretheran, keep trying and fight the good fight. 48 years young and still learning new tricks!

Probably my last of 2013...

The precursor to this one.

"Throw me a beer"

"Yeah, in the cooler"

"Uh, it's the alumacan"

"Bottom of the cooler"

"Yeah, you've gotta open it first"

"Right there on the bottom of the seat, the opener..."

"Right there"

"Yeah open it first"

"Just throw it"

"Geezes - just throw the damn thing."

"Ok. That works. 'bout frickin time. I'm dying back here..."

Lol.. Relax you look so stiff..

Well, if you know where I can find a new disk, that may help!
I really took a bad spill and had a disk " disappear" . The Dr told me it was degenerative disk disease. It was no disease but a toe side edge on a wakeboard at about 30 mph that caused my stiffness.
I still enjoy playing even though I have lost most of my flexibility.

Congrats. Very cool. I've been so close, so many times, just cant stick it at the end of the turn. I'm still hoping for one more warm day here in Mn, have'nt given up yet.

Couldn't do it without using hands to not over rotate.

Half the fun is picking out people's walk up (surfing) music!

I have a board with 4 fins in the rear. If I pull 2 of them, will it make it easier to spin?

bergermaister
11-01-2018, 04:54 PM
In theory yes. Less resistance, more squirrelly, etc. The 4 fins will give you more speed to drive towards the boat from back in the wave.

In reality, for some of us anyway, it doesn't seem to matter if I have one fin or five, skim board or surf style, I still cannot ride the damn thing out...

Finally started attempting the 360 this past weekend. First day, I struggled to get full rotation. Second day, Im rotating too much lol. Excuse the vid quality. I had to download it from FB, and it screwed up the quality.
