I was finally able to find and purchase my dream car.

1993 40th Anniversary Edition Corvette Convertible.
Its a pretty rare car and even more rare that's its in great condition. I decided to sell the Vision as i haven't been riding it as much and it feels like a chore to ride, and that's not a good place to be mentally when riding.

This baby is 40, just like me LOL. No seriously i have wanted one ever since the release in 93, I have always had a love for Vettes, being the true American Muscle car, always in a class by its self, well after a long search i was able to pick up this gem.

It has every service record since it was new, and for the last 10 years she has only had 16k miles added.

iirc, for a long time, automatic in any car was an add in the nada for every car but the corvette. it was a deduct for it.

I wish it had the 6 speed but seeing how only 2043 40th Convertabiles were even built, imagine how hard it is to find the 6speed? LOL

Also this is more rare due to the fact this one has Every option on the list.

Mark its Chevy and VW in the garage. Ford sits outside LOL. But i know what ya mean man. I am just not a fan of the Mustang, i have respect for the car but its not for me.

The real interesting part will be in a couple months when fall comes and the rain starts, and Bestia returns to the garage for her winters sleep LOL.

I will say though the Auto in this car, <700R4> is very different then the one in my 91 Trans Am i owned. It shifts a lot firmer but that is just a servo thats different in the two transmissions. The computer in the car upshifts it really soon, but it only takes 35% throttle to downshift to lower gears.

So fare milage is showing an average of 22 which is pretty nice. We will see once its time to fill her up LOL.

Nice looking ride! I remember drooling over those when they were new (yes I am old)

Threw in a couple pics of my old vette, pretty stock except the 405 hp small block, EFI, Tremec 5-spd, suspension and rims and rubber. Just finished putting in a new leather interior along with new carpet.

Sounds like after boating season, the wife has to park outside??

Dredging up this old thread, as it looks like Ruby will be a RIP Dream Car.

When I moved to GA one of things I noticed is how fast everyone drives here, also I noticed how much damages is on peoples cars and not fixed. This has always bothered me as I like my cars to look nice and if they get damaged they need to be fixed.

I told Claudia one of my biggest fears is someone will hit me in the Vette. It will be a total loss as everything on the Vette is expensive being fiberglass and such large panels.

Friday evening I was going into town to have dinner with Claudia to celebrate my new job offer, I was going south while the bulk of traffic was going north, there was't even that much traffic in my direction. There was a car in front of me, and he stopped fairly sudden but with more then enough time for me to stop without really jamming my breaks, I had at least 4-6 ft distance from him. When I looked in my rear view mirror the Lexus SUV behind me wasn't stopping. I actually had enough time to lean into the seat and brace for impact.

Slam!! She hit me so hard I was launched into the car in front of me, my glasses and hat flew into the windshield and my phone laying on the consule bounces off the stereo and fly's into the back of the car.

In the pictures you can see the damage but its what you can't see thats really bad.

Ironically I just installed these new LED Tail lights so I was more visible, maybe she was blinded by them.
You can see the entire rear is damaged, the licence plate is actually bent. Drivers Exhaust tip is about 3-4 inches longer then the bumper and originally it was maybe an inch sticking out. Exhaust bracket is incompletely broken off under the car. The spare tire sits behind the fuel tank, I had 1/2 a tank of fuel at the impact, and now I have a full tank so the fuel tank is crushed.

Before the crash

This side pic also doesn't look to bad at first glance, but look at the fender over the wheel, yup thats a crease and the fiberglass has broke, but its still stressed.
Look at the door gap and this tells the real story. There is a gap at the bottom but not the top, the car folded up in the impact and the door is jammed shut. I had to dukes of hazard my way out of the car.

Also when I drove the car home the following day, as Claudia came and picked me up, the rear inner fender rubs on the tire, and this is not a normal soft plastic liner, its hard plastic and metal. Its crushed in about 1-2 inches compared to the passenger side.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/40th%20Anniversary%20Edition%20Vette/20160909_170844_zpsqaytcyc0.jpg (http://s639.photobucket.com/user/mmandley/media/40th%20Anniversary%20Edition%20Vette/20160909_170844_zpsqaytcyc0.jpg.html)

Drivers side Hood looks to be ok for the most part, but looking at the hood line where it opens, you can see the hood is bowed as well, it also won't open any more. Its jammed shut.

The nose of the car is damaged but not to bad as I had some distance between me and the car in front of me. The car in front only has a scratch here I hit him and his plastic bumper is out of alignment now.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/40th%20Anniversary%20Edition%20Vette/20160909_170817_zpsvyab8zee.jpg (http://s639.photobucket.com/user/mmandley/media/40th%20Anniversary%20Edition%20Vette/20160909_170817_zpsvyab8zee.jpg.html)

Here is a couple pictures from the Spring of the car.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/40th%20Anniversary%20Edition%20Vette/IMAG0470_zpseclgrgjf.jpg (http://s639.photobucket.com/user/mmandley/media/40th%20Anniversary%20Edition%20Vette/IMAG0470_zpseclgrgjf.jpg.html)

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu114/mmandley/40th%20Anniversary%20Edition%20Vette/IMAG0651_zps4jwvinav.jpg (http://s639.photobucket.com/user/mmandley/media/40th%20Anniversary%20Edition%20Vette/IMAG0651_zps4jwvinav.jpg.html)

The bright side is no one was hurt, including myself. I had no pains from the hit, I expected my neck and back to be sore but no issues at all.

On one note, I know I would have never gotten rid of this car as I wanted it since I was 20, and I would have kept restoring it to be nicer and replacing rebuilding parts on it. Now that this has happened, I have to let it go, I see no reason to buy it back with a salvage title and rebuild it. It will never be the same with frame damage.

I guess I will be in the market for a newer C6 Vette.

Nope no adjuster or anything yet, she has State Farm and they can't seem to get her to return calls. So I'm still waiting on that part. They said they need to talk to her to confirm she was at fault, even though we have a police report and everything stating she's at fault.

I'll give it a couple more days then I'm going to call and raise some shit, might talk to a lawyer of State Farm can't get this moving along.

I was told years ago to stay away from any insurance company with "farm" in it. It has been years since an accident but I always claim an injury so to have a means to settle fairly. I always notify my own company and used them to work the claim when the other side is dragging their feet. Getting a car rental makes them work quicker.

I have to admit up front I am biased. But for a moment think about if it was the other way around, would you want your company to start paying money out against your policy without talking to you? A lawyer will make it worse so do not go that route. Your insurance company can pay you and subrogate. That's the best option outside of being patient.

The reviews look good for State Farm. A rental car gets them motivated because it is a daily cha ching for them until it is fixed or totaled.

Yes I think the first mistake I made was having it towed to my yard where it wasn't accruing any storage fees. Naturally they made it very easy to get them copies of the title and next day mailed the check so I had to turn the rental car in Friday lol. The communication went from nill to nonstop.

They finally called me Tuesday to look at the car this Friday.

Getting a Rental or anything right now only means I pay yup front then try to get my money back later.

State Farm said if I don't want to wait, claim it in my insurance, once everything is settled they would pay Allstate.

Problem is then I have a claim on my insurance listed as not at fault but it's a claim non the less.

State Farm said they don't really care what a police report says, if their drivers won't admit responsibility then I have to fight everything.

I just don't understand it. I have pictures, a police report, citations as who was at fault, I don't get why I have to play this song and dance.

I'm just glad I still have my truck to drive or I probably would blow a gasket.

zabooda
09-21-2016, 12:52 PM
State farm needs to quit playing stupid and confess a rear end collision is almost always the fault of the driver in the rear. Second, using your own company doesn't go against your record "if" the claim is settled. I have used that in the past and it works best when the other party is balking. I give the insurance company the opportunity to get a rental car for the loss of your daily commute car and if they balk then I advise them in writing that a rental will be obtained. An injury from the accident can come up shortly after an accident so you can advise them that you will be seeking medical treatment.

Did I say I am asking for a car camera this Christmas that I can put it in the vehicle I am driving? Small enough that I can conceal in the event that I may be at fault. I like the instant replay aspect of football and I want to extend that to driving. I would of course let the other driver lie first before bring out the big guns. Too much crap and risk not to have one.

It's pretty common that the client of the insured has to come forward to say that there'd been an "incident". it's what keeps some random stranger from contacting your insurance company and fraudulently claiming you wronged them. It's been a policy of state farm for the almost 30 years I've had them.

Yes, it's frustrating for you, but it's just one of their normal policies that was created as a protection measure for their clients. It'll come out okay, just stay the course.

"It's pretty common that the client of the insured has to come forward to say that there'd been an "incident". " That may never happen also one never admits fault as there may be other issues that were a contributing cause. The only way it will get the insurance company's attention is if that person puts in a claim or the other person contacts the insurance company (if the information is correct). The statement of the client given to the insurance company is what they work with and it may differ greatly so getting a copy is important. I pay my insurance company to represent me and use them for that purpose. I had the same issue with State Farm many years ago and actually got kicked out of their office. Wrong move on their part.

State Farm guy came to look at my car. He doesn't know anything about damages if you ask me.

First he didn't even look at the damaged fuel tank. Open the gas door and you can see the whole thing is crushed.

He said my drivers door needs alignment, no it will need that but right now the front gap is correct, rear lower gap is correct, upper gap is gone because the structure of the car is damaged.

He's like I don't see frame damage.

A Vette doesn't have a normal frame, and being bent 1/2 is pretty hard to see with the naked eye.

Any how long story short, what he did write up is over 6500 in damages and said he's going to submit the car as a total loss.

Sounds a little frustrating. That said, if the submission is for a total loss, you've passed this step and get to move forward. Now it's going to be all about haggling over the value they give you. Hope that all goes smooth.

Just caught up on your thread, that really sucks, but thankfully you are not hurt and the car can be replaced. I am guessing the replacement would be somewhere between $15k and $25k??

Good luck, and I feel for you on dealing with the wankers from the auto insurance companies that are set up for mini-vans and Toyota commuter cars, not your dream car.

If you ever do insure another classic or hot rod that is NOT your daily driver, give Hagerty a shot. I have too older rigs (a 69 Vet and a 65 Caddy) that I have insured with them and their service is beyond great!! But I am pretty sure that they don't do daily drivers/commute cars.
