View Full Version : Tires used for bumpers on dock?

I've been bugging the guys at our favorite watering hole on the lake to add some bumpers to their old steel docks they have sitting out front. They mentioned they will be adding tires around the docks and part of me cringed thinking this might make the problem even worse by marking up the side of the boat. We always carry our own bumpers, but was hoping for more of a marine style upgrade to their docks. I would think tires would really do a number on any vinyl graphics, but, my boat is naked now so I don't have to worry about that anymore.

Anyone ever tied up to some old radials in the past and had any problems?

No way I'd do that. Drop some hippity hops between the boat & tires.

They have them at one of the lakes we go to sometimes, and they suck. I have been lucky enough not to get any marks on my moomba but we go to a lot of lengths to keep the boat off the tires. I had rubber marks on my old stern drive and I have seen plenty of other boats with the same. Its almost worse having the tires than nothing as your bouys can end up in the gap between the tires and allow the boat to rub.
Tell them not to bother to do anything if all they are going to do is tires...
