kenwood's website will have the faceplate dimensions and possibly crutchfield. it's a very large faceplate vertically and not as wide as a normal face horizontally iirc. it's pretty thick and needs some space under the face to open all the way.

very solid hu and tons of adjustment potential. I liked it a lot better than the clarion unit in my boat.

Isn't it a 2 part radio similar to the factory MB Quart unit? Has the face where you put the iPod but then the main part is separate and mounted elsewhere. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought I saw a pic of it like that.

I have the 550U which is great too! I think there is a new model that replaced that one though.

It is a 2 peace but not quite like that.

It has the brain part seperate but it does actually look like a normal stereo head unit, the face plate is larger then normal for the controls and display. It then has the case of a normal stereo and within that your Iphone plugs in and goes in side, or a thumb drive so its water tight.

Right, that's what I meant. I was just using the MBQ as a reference to the separate brain. The separate brain is actually what turned me off from using the 700. That's just one more thing to mount the way I looked at it.

I do, I've smoked a few iPods over the years so having it inside the deck is great. Even the iPod I use now has a display you can't read due to water damage but the display and search on the deck is one of the easiest I've used.

I put the brain in the spotters cubby close to my amps which also let me use shorter Rca's.

The one i had in the LSV i liked very much also. I also had the matching remote wiht the display on it. The controls on the stereo are easy to use and read. The remote is slightly different but not to bad at all.

keep in mind the 700u won't work with older wired remotes. you have to replace them as well.

From what I understand the 107 remotes have been discontinued and replaced with a round style remote. May still be able to find some left over stock around though...

could be and would not surprise as round seems to be the standard, but just know the older kenwood stuff won't work at all with the 700u.

yeaaa i figured..just sucks that they made the old remote oval and the dash formed to it..i would replace that remote with a new one but i domnt think kenwood makes oval remotes anymore

the 107remote square one is slightly larger than the oval iirc. it should look ok installed. if not, use a piece of the black mounting plastic that car audio guys use and build a larger cover. I know when I mounted it to the transom of the supra it covered up the fade/wax lines that were present from removing the old remote.

Last year I installed the 700u in the glove box and the remote on the dash after relocating the ignition switch.

It has worked great and I just throw my iPod in the HU's storage or hook up a USB flash drive.

It's in the oval black plastic piece to the right, above the switches

I screwed my ProSport 20 to the back of the bow seat in the battery compartment....no, I didn't make any special mounting board and yes, it was a PITA but it looks good and no the screws didn't come through.

If you are getting water in there up to the back of the seat I think you've got bigger problems to worry about.

The charger can handle as much water as your batteries can and its really no bigger than an amp.

water parts not a big deal only because on the occasion when we turn around to pick up a rider and we hit a wave and some water comes over the bow...mike and i were thinking under the observers seat
