I like Mobil 1 oil and filters.

If you use an oil that meets the manual standards and change it regularly, you shouldn't have an issue. IMO, the filter is the more important area on buying quality.

And for what its worth I use the high capacity m1-302 filter from mobile 1.

Posted this yesterday but must have gotten lost in the server restore.

From the 05 manual:

Engine Oil
The engine crankcase oil should be selected to deliver the
highest performance for your operating conditions and
climate. In general engine oils with lower viscosity ratings
are used when outdoor temperature remains low. Oils with
higher viscosity are used when outdoor temperature is
warmer and when higher performance is expected from the
engine.
Indmar recommends 15W-40 Pennzoil Marine in their
engines. If not available, use a 15W40 motor oil with an
A.P.I. classification rating of SL/SJ/CI4/CH4/CG4 or
equivilent. Synthetic oils are not recommended until after
the engine has been run for 100 hours.

+1, Rotella T w/ WIX 51060. I am not sure how the taller filter will do directly on the motor as to a remote location.

What's the difference in this and the m1-111?

I'm with blackout, I use the Penzoil Marine 15W40 just like the manual says. I have to get it at the local Mastercraft dealer. I use the Penzoil PZ3 (or PZ52 or whatever it is now) oil filter as well.

I use the same. Bakes marine online carries it and usually has a fall or spring discount that I capitalize on. Also pick up my impeller at the same time.

Called Indmar today to discuss oil. Told the gentlemen I spoke with that I had a 2012 Mojo with the 345 Assault motor and was hoping to get a few alternatives to the recommended Penzoil product. We specifically discussed the following oils as suitable alternatives:
Rotella 15-40
Delo 15-40 (non LE)
Delvac Super 1300 15W-40

Hope this helps those of you searching for options to the "hard to find" Penzoil Marine product.

So, let me get this straight...The Rotella 15W-40 diesel oil is a suitable substitute? I can't find the pennzoil marine locally and the diesel label on the Rotella is throwing me off.

For the Vdrive I can use the same SAE 30 that I toss in my mower?

Yes the diesel oil will work. I run Shell Rotella or Delvac 15-40 and run the Attwoods label tractor sae30 in the v-drive. I get all my oils at Tractor Supply or Attwoods which ever is on sale at the time.

Not only suitable, but comes with a pretty solid recommendation: https://forum.moomba.com/showthread.php?16473-oil-change&p=157173#post157173

I have used sae30 in the vdrive in the past.. It seems '13 manuals say 2 different thing. Indmar manual states 15-40 and has a sticker on the vdrive unit too, but in the walter manual states sae30 non detergent.

It probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference if you change it every year anyway. Both grades will give you plenty of lubrication and won't break down in a year. I see no reason to quit running the sae30 though. I haven't heard of a v-drive failing on here ever.

The way I understand it, you want a non-detergent oil in your vdrive so any dirt, shavings, etc will drop to the bottom. Detergent oil on the other hand is designed to suspend the junk in the oil, then pass it through the oil filter. Makes sense in theory but in practice I'm not sure how much it matters. The vdrive is a simple system with no internal combustion junk to filter.

This year I started using Rotella T and what a difference, went the whole summer with just a small top up at the end. The years prior I was running Castrol GTX 15w-40 and had to top up around 2-3 times throughout the summer. Will be sticking to Rotella from now on.

On the advice of a friend I respect who owns a marine business and builds probably 250 motors a year, as well as does all his own machine work he recommended Rotella to me.

New (to me) shop serviced my boat this year, as I left it in BC for the winter. All they do is service boats; no Sales. They use synthetic oil in 100% of their oil changes. Didn't ask why.
